Well supposedly an export version was being promoted at the dubai airshow last year

So I suppose its possible,however one of the headlines I`ve come across in relation to an iranian j10 purchase is this bizarre story that claims iran is going to pay for 36 j10s using the money qatar supposedly offered iran as compensation for the ukraine airliner shoot down.

The biggest problem with this story is that the un arms embargo is still in effect tho it should be gone before the end of 2020 as part of the jcpoa provisions,however the eurovassals now look as tho they will try and use the disputes mechanism to invoke the snap back of the pre deal un sanctions,tho whether china or russia would bother abiding by them under those circumstances is anyones guess.
The other problem is that 36 seems a very odd number,its really far too small to give much of an improvement to irans airfleet in terms of capabilities.Ultimately I`d take this claim more seriously if this was a deal for licensed production rather than just buying a small number as we`ve heard this sort of thing before with the su30/su27 which was total crap.
One very remote possibility is that this small number is not actually meant for the the iriaf but the irgc-af,as they are the ones currently operating the f7 fleet.

The part that Iran is using Qatars money to buy the planes is definitely fake. Like Iran needs money from Qatar to buy military hardware lol. But the part that we are buying Chinese planes could be true. We cant rule that part out.

The Mig-35 has no future, pretty much like all of Russian military aviation right now. Also, the Russians can, and are influenced directly by Israel ( delayed S300 delivery ) but China is not at all. The J10C has a brighter future, esp with regards to after sales support and upgrades.

Contrary to reports from numerous sources in Russia’s Defense Ministry that Iran was seriously interested in Russian MiG-35 fighters, the Islamic republic’s government plans to use $1.5 of the $3 billion allocated by Qatar to purchase 36 Chinese Chengdu J-10C fighters, which are reportedly cheaper and more promising.

“The Emir (head of state) of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Iran and met with the country’s president Rouhani in Tehran. Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani offered Iran $3 billion in financial assistance on behalf of Qatar for compensating the families of the victims who were killed in Iran. However, according to a report from the Reuters news agency, Iran plans to use $1-1.5 billion as compensation to the victims’ families, and the remaining funds will be used to purchase new weaponry and equipment. Iran’s Air Force is currently in the worst position with respect to equipment, and new fighters are urgently needed to replace the old ones. The J-10 is one of the potential targets,” Sina reports.

At the same time, the Chinese news agency points out that Iran remains extremely interested in Russian Su-30 fighters but, in light of the recent criticism against Russian military aircraft, primarily on account of the lack of spare parts, the country is still greatly interested in China’s Chengdu J-10.

1- Literally few years ago the Iranian defence minister said they are not looking to purchase the J-10
2- The defence minister said they were interested in the SU-30

the attack from suleimani strike has come from Qatar according to some rumours..

in any event when Iran was shooting missiles at US base, they warned every single arab state that there would be direct retaliation against them if the US used their territory to attack Iran.

Qatar hosts a huge US airbase they cannot control. They are a TINY but immensely wealthy state with hundreds of billions/trillions in infastracture.

3 billion dollar payment/bribe is absolute pocket change for Qatar in order to secure their security interests from Iran. they probably got some guarantee of Iran not attacking them in return
