Iran bans women from universities

What a monumentally wrong headed and stupid move. Who was the driver behind this cow pie, certainly not the universities themselves?

.
All i heard is that Mullahs want to stop gender mix in universities, but they can't do because they don't have enough girls colleges and universities.
yeah I heard that too. The mullahs simply can't make Iranians into the arabs that they want us to be, so they're constantly trying to find ways to change the society.

If you hear anything about the banning thing plz share. I still haven't come across anything on Iranian websites, apart from the Persian news link that OP posted. Maybe they're just bull shitting.

If it was legit, it would've been published by IRNA and ISNA (regime mouth pieces). I'm not seeing anything on IRNA's education section.

Why the heck would the universities do such a thing? Of course they're not. The news isn't confirmed yet so I'm not panicking yet. I'm seeing no activity on either regime sites or opposition sites.

btw, in Iran, based on your SAT scores, you will most likely go to university for free in a govt financed university. They can make any decision they want when it comes to universities.

It's even in Pakistani news.
Iran bans women from over 70 university courses: Report – The Express Tribune

Though if that makes it more legit or less is up to you.

naturally 3 places have to be checked: university websites, pro regime sites and opposition sites. I'm seeing nothing on any website. I've checked IRNA, balatarin.com and a random university site. There is only hamshahri.com which has this news. I haven't lived in Iran for a long time so I don't know if they're legit or not.

Well, from what i understand is that they've banned the women from acquiring 77 degrees. And then Iran's science and higher education minister, Kamran Daneshjoo, said that women still could get 90% of the degrees available to men.

I know, but why isn't it being mentioned anywhere? On one hand I would't be shocked if true, on the other hand I know that opposition sites are just itching for such events. balatarin.com would be the first place on the interwebs to post this lol

Perhaps the Mullahs felt the need to rebalance the gender ratio of university graduates from the 65% female to half. By this measurement, they are already much more progressive than the western universities.

I guess that's understandable, but obviously not a smart move. You still can't compare Iran to the Saudis of course, with the latter's non-existent rights for women. Still, it could be the start of a long campaign, with woman's rights slowly being rescinded until they approach Taliban levels. Hopefully this won't happen.

As per my discussion with colleagues - some are saying Mullah's don't want gender mix and they says that young generation is not focusing on studies that's why they want gender specific institutes. Some are saying that because girls are dominating all fields - men has to go for two years military service and after that they don't continue studies or can't compete in entrance exams so they are legging behind - so regime want to restore the gender mix in workforce - so they are going to introduce new male only classes.

Can't believe our men gave a reason to the mullah to do this. But yeah, it's a problem in Iran. Men always get lower scores on university entrance exams. I'm just quickly thinking about my own family. My female cousins have/are studying chemistry, mathematics etc... and my male cousins are all doing **** degrees. One of them was forced to go to a university in some obscure part of the country to become a special kind of vet for farm animals lmao He's become the butt of all jokes in the family. The poor guy has to stick his hand up cow's ***** and deliver babies and ****. Nasty *** job.

I see no problem with our women being so much smarter. The problem is that the regime isn't happy with women dominating the work force and they don't even allow them to dominate, so that means they literally have to create such idiotic laws to force the stupider sex into these jobs.

He is a vet...a very respectful job, atleast in my country. Its nasty, dirty but somebody has to do it.

Another B.S article taken out of context

If anything the iranian regime should be commended for opening up education to so much women and girls

A vet is a respectful job, but I don't know if he was becoming a vet. Maybe he was, I don't know (I don't think he was going to medical school though). All he ever did was get trained on site in farms and have his hand get stuck in the backside of cows lmao

nasty job

looks like Taliban effect is rubbing on the Iranians

but then again there is Tehran university of Medical science

Non-Iranian Graduates and Students of Medical Sciences Universities Hold Their First Conference in Isfahan

and thats the proof maybe
that non Iranian females are allowed through
Again, majority of university students are women 60/40. They're trying to limit the number of fields that women can enter. The end result is going to be less women in certain areas, but the 60/40 split will still remain. Stupid move if true.

.
The thread title is misleading.Iran hasn't banned women from universities!!!
Ahmadinejad himself has ordered this issue to be reversed and strongly opposed it.The universities themselves has done this, claiming that these courses are 'male-oriented' and approving women in them is wasting of money!like the mining engineering. However this is a bull crap and shouldn't have be done, but this is temporary and only for one year since the course-selection time has already passed and there is nothing anyone can do about it.From the next year, women will be allowed in these courses again. How the hell can Iran stop women from entering universities while 65% of current students are women?!
Some people are just searching on the net to post anything negative about Iran in here.,the worst part is twisting the news.
