The Iranian Air Force is holding its annual military exercise to show off its ability to safeguard its airspace, according to IRNA news agency. The maneuvers are taking place near the central city of Isfahan, a region that is home to Iran’s key nuclear facilities, AP said. Fighter jets, bombers and drones will be tested about some 400km south of the capital, Tehran. The area includes the Natanz uranium enrichment plant, and Isfahan also has an airbase that played a major role during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. The two-day drill aims to improve and update capabilities of the air force, as well as display Iran’s military power, said military spokesman Gen. Masoud Rouzkhosh.

Iran needs to upgrade it's airforce asap to nullify any foreign threat.

Iran needs to upgrade it's airforce asap to nullify any foreign threat.

There is no need for PDF members to mention in every IRI air force related thread that Iran needs to upgrade its air force.

1) Iranians are perfectly aware that their air force is greatly outdated.
2) There are no decision makers on this forum, so any policy advise is futile.
3) Iranian military strategy has, due to sanctions, shifted towards missile prominence, which establishes deterrence, therefore making up for the lack of modern aerial firepower.
4) Iran is still under sanctions, and can't buy fighter jets until 2021.

So enjoy the somehow antiquated fighter jets Iran still operates, which has been made possible due to Iran's indigenous military industry and inguinety. All while Iran has faced a military embargo for decades, a brutal 8-years old war which had its toll on the air force and limited foreign cooperation and training. Considering all this, Iran has done quite well.

There is no real "deterrence" for ballistic missile without nuclear warhead .... we should have nukes but IRI decision makers don't have enough courage ....
