Pakistan is not a mere geographical identity, it was founded on the two nation theory promulgated by Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal was on this date in 1877. A poet, a philosopher, a charismatic leader, a thinker and a visionary...who saw the future and who anticipated creation of state where Muslims of the subcontinent could live freely according to the tenants of Islam. But his philosophy is universal and has far reaching effects on the personal growth of "THE SELF" for an individual and the whole society. Iqbal's impetus on the development of "THE SELF" is ubiquitous in his poetry. He defines the concept and source of "THE SELF"

خودی کا سرِ نہاں لا الہٰ الا اللہ
خودی ہے تیغ، فساں لا الہٰ الا اللہ
The philosophy of the self demands the person to firmly believe in just one God - Allah and shun all other isms and idols. It makes a believing individual and the society independent. It behooves a person does not accept the injustice, he does not prostrate to any usurper and obey the wrong-doers and the same holds true for the society. The cause of our dismal and precarious plight is the negligence of the Self. Why are we constantly begging to IMF and prostrating to our lenders is because we have forgotten the philosophy of the self.....the very foundation of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Lets awake ourselves from the deep slumber and refresh our memories. Lets celebrate, appreciate and practice the philosophy of THE SELF. Lets commemorate Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal.

The amount of historical vandalism in Pakistan is disturbing. The most momentous idea that Sir Allama came out was in his speech of 1930 which first enunciated the idea of "Pakistan". Please refer below.

"India is a continent of human groups belonging to different races, speaking different languages, and professing different religions [...] Personally, I would like to see the Punjab, North-West Frontier Province, Sindh and Baluchistan amalgamated into a single State. Self-government within the British Empire, or without the British Empire, the formation of a consolidated North-West Indian Muslim State appears to me to be the final destiny of the Muslims, at least of North-West India".

You of course do see that his speech of 1930 captured the present reality of Pakistan. He is saying the Khyber Pak ( NWFP ), Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh should be joined into one state - That is what federation of Pakistan is today.

You will also notice he did not include Bengal in his demand. Kashmir was a self governing princely state thus could not be included in context.

Excuse me...Did you even try to understand the gist of the thread?. The focus is on the concept of the "THE SELF" or "خودی"

What are you talking about?

Human being is made up of body and spirit(rooh) mainly. Body will die , spirit will live on forever. Spirit gets affected by decisions humans make and the circumstances they face. If a human being feeds its body more, the body becomes stronger, if he feeds the spirit, the spirit gets stronger.
A strong spirit is better for human being since it elevates the state of conscience and pinches the humanbeing from inside if he does something ethically or morally wrong like lying, cheating etc.
A happy spirit gives satisfaction to a human being from inside so he doesnt need to tend to alcohol partying etc to make himself happy, he can sit happily in satisfaction anywhere any time.

The best form of obedience comes through love or ishq. A person whose spirit is always in love for his beloved (eventually supreme being ;God) will always obey what he is told to do because persons mind and thoughts will have nothing else but thoughts of beloved in his head or back of his head when is busy in his daily worldly chores. No negative though will enter his head.

Self control is a path filled with tests. tests come without indication but tests elevates the status and position of spirit. It helps a human being in many ways including his physical looks which become innocent and young even if he is old while also enhancing his sixth sense to learn more about his surroundings and people he interacts with.

Iqbal also brings up a concept of Vicegerent (delegate or representative with powers authorised from God) in "khudi". Something like Ashraf al Makhlookat(supreme of all God made creatures) or God's Naib on Earth.

A human being is a weakling who cannot even control himself or his anger or his fate or time or his death or can he?

Iqbal in his poetry writes,

Nigah e Mard e momin se badal jati hain takdeerain
(glance of a true believer can change fate)
and
Jo ho zok e yaqeeen paida, tau cut jati hain zanjeerain
(if the taste of certainty is born, the chains are cut )

Its already known a prayer or dua can change fate. But Iqbal brings in two very important aspects:
glance of true believer
and
certainty.

A true believer in Iqbal poetry may not necessarily be a hard core pious person with a long beard, he could be
a humble,
humanity-loving person,
who cries in isolation at night in love of God and prays for other humans,
whose heart saddens on seeing humans in distress and pain
but he is a person who is
"certain,
with no doubt whatsoever,
doesnt give space to confusion in his head,
doesnt let negative thoughts or black days bother him even for a second,
and walks on this Earth with an unshakeable faith".

which means that he is free from the afflictions of satan as satan cannot enter his mind or heart or body to cause distraction or disappointment or greed or confusion.
Unshakeable faith comes from love(ishq) also as love is blind. Mind can reason.

If a person possesses such qualities he could be ashraf al makhlookat. Then all the other creations of God will obey his orders and be his subjects including animals, insects, different kinds of spiritual creatures dwelling in land sea air and all the other creatures not known to man kind. It could be that "mind or brain" makes a human ashraf al makhlookat but brain has helped man in stepping forward in science and technology as time passed whereas the concept of ashraf al makhlookat was 1400 years ago and before that since first man was created.
