* Rehman Malik says world needs cooperation through information sharing, capacity building of law enforcement agencies

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan faces a 9/11-like situation every day as the price for its support to the international community, but what it has received in return does not match Pakistan’s commitment, contribution and role in the war on terror, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said.

“International cooperation with Pakistan in combating terrorism is not befitting [us],” he said while addressing the 78th General Conference of Interpol in Singapore. Cooperation: Malik said strong policing was significantly important to combat crime before it grew to the extent of being out of control. “This is the lesson we have learnt from the experience of militancy and terrorism in Pakistan,” he said, adding that the sophisticated weapons being used by the Taliban indicated that other countries were supporting them.

He said drug trafficking, money laundering and terrorism were interrelated crimes that could only be countered by meaningful cooperation. He urged the international community to participate in the war on terror in terms of capacity building of law enforcement agencies. Separately, he said Pakistan needed adequate world support to overcome the menace of terrorism. Talking to a British TV channel, he said Pakistan was fighting well-trained terrorists, adding that the country was doing its best with the available capability. app
