IMO it is a culture thing. Indians don't care enough about international prestige so they don't invest money into this sort of things.

You don't need a lot of money for success at IMO. Most of Serbian team members are from one school:

And that is not a big school, but they have a lot of talented kids, and they work hard with them. And it's not just math, they are excellent at many other things, as you can see on the link above.

Uh, as I said, there's a difference between finding students talented enough and finding students who have prepared specifically for such an olympiad almost their entire lives, as happens in China and the US.

What ? Entire lives ? Here in Romania every highschool sends its best on the county level.Those who win the county level qualify for the country Olympiad.The best on the country Olympiad go further to International competitions.It's simple really,nobody is breeding them in special labs,stop making excuses.

My country Singapore, is 8th and we have just 75% Chinese out of 4 million residence. Our team are all Chinese.

You can tell by their names roughly that most (at least 60%) if not 100% are natives Chinese.

The English transliteration of Chinese character in Singapore for locals are mostly based on our own dialect. The PRC mostly use Hanyu pinyin.

So the Tan (陈), Ling （林）, Toh （杜）are definitely native. The Liu and Lin could be newly imported PRC. The Lin could be a Singaporeans because newly imported high school PRC seldom have a Christian name. The Liu have higher chance of being a PRC.

You can learn to do things well by practice. However, intelligence is born not taught. Given a couple, one is an engineer one is a doctor, their offspring will most likely be quite intelligent compare to two poor couples on welfare having children.

Did you know indians invented almost everything? They invented numbers, contributed to western philosophy, clothing the world, world's first toilet, spoons and forks, first airplane, etc

Kids in India are busy in clearing IIT entrance exam which I am sure will be 1000 times more difficult than this stupid and useless olypiad

Let's just say if there were an International Blowhard Olympiad, India and Indians would rank in the Top 3 every year.

India does not have special grooming programmes for such international events , most kids in senior high school are busy preparing for entrance exams for top engineering and medical colleges which have a specific course and syllabus , doing well in IMO would get you laurels in India but not admission into a top college , hence hardly any student prepares specifically for such events and one cannot think of getting a top 10 rank without specifically preparing for IMO.
