If corrupt politicians can get NSG cover, then why not ambassador or important IAS officers..thats what I asked..and also,ITBP is deployed only in Afghanistan, not in other countries..In some cases,BSF guard them.don't know who guards the other consulates..there was talk on dedicated force to protect embassies in the line of USA's The Bureau of Diplomatic Security..

Soon, dedicated force to protect embassies - Times Of India

Hopes we could see dedicated security force to protect Indian embassies & installations around the world.

Very nice to see the reaction of the Afghans to have increased the security around the Indian Embassy and Consulates. Goes a long way in sowing goodwill - these things - and avoiding all this half a million rupee non-sense.

Bro, if you are talking about corruption then no one is sane, bureaucrats are equally corrupt as politicians are

one question, why India use ITBP to guard consulate in Afghanistan and not CISF(which generally protects this kind of installation) or in case of commando units like NSG,SPG????

.

It's a fair point. But then India doesn't really, as of yet, have standardised security for its diplomatic missions such as the US's Marine Security Guards and DSS of the State Dept . Some will be protected by ITBP commandos, others by CISF, others by X etc etc. For close proximity protection no doubt it would make absolute sense to provide NSG (SRG) commandos to the Ambassadors/envoy and have a force like the ITBP purely look after the physical building of the consulate/Embassy.

What India needs is a dedicated force/ designated unit for the latter part as,like I said, it is done in a bit of a piece-meal manner right now which is far from ideal. With a sole dedicated force/ designated unit you can standardise training, equipment, deployments etc etc. Embassy protection is a very specific duty that is substantially different from what these ITBP/ CIS/BSF commandos will generally be trained in. Yes they're all likely to go through specialised training specifically for this task but most likely there is no set syllabus for these guys.

its the job of host country to give us protection....

Perimeter protection is their responsibility but protection if the physical embassy and close proximity protection to any Indian officials falls to Indian security forces.

If an attacker ever got inside the walls of an Indian consulate/embassy it is up to Indian security officials to deal with the threat. Similarly convoy protection is largely the responsibility of Indian security guards.

Its funny how these Pakistanis were calling India a drama queen few hours before this attack(when the warning had been issue)...and now they continue to live in denial.(the best that they do)

Update (of sorts ) on this DSF (Diplomatic Security Force) at least things seem to be moving at speed on this proposal now.
