Intensify combing and targeted operations, orders Gen Raheel

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif on Tuesday has directed corps commanders and intelligence outfits to further intensify combing and targeted operations with the aim to eliminate terrorists and sleepers cells.

The army chief was addressing the Corps Commanders Conference at General Headquarters attended by all corps commanders and principal staff officers.

“The cowardly terror attack on Pakistan’s judiciary, carried out in a hospital, is an attempt to undermine the successes of Operation Zarb-i-Azb,” said the army chief at the forum.

General Raheel added that by adopting a national approach, the armed forces would not allow anyone to reverse the gains made in the fight against terrorism.

All commanders were also directed to provide all necessary assistance to provincial law-enforcement agencies in capacity building, training and planning to further improve effectiveness in counter-terrorism operations.

The forum also expressed its deepest sympathies with grieved families and injured of Quetta blast.

Participants of the conference were given detailed briefings on ongoing military operations and the overall external and internal security situation in the country with particular reference to the counter terrorism domain.

The high-level huddle by military officials was held a day after the carnage in Quetta, which killed 70 people.

A suicide bomber targeted the emergency services ward at Quetta’s Civil Hospital.

The Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a splinter group of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the militant Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the attack.

People committing the heinous crimes against innocent think that they are winning but they fail to understand a fact that such acts of theirs actually provide imputes to LEAs and Intel Agencies to go for such steps which were earlier resisted by ruling elite.

Why don't they start with Mehmood Khan Achakzai ? Come on I am now getting fed-up of all this.

We keep hearing this after every blast for the past 10 years. Its now sounding like just talk and no action. I am not going for the blame game but by ordering extra action won't make much difference. The extra action and work should be already happening.

The reality is that this is first failure of the government, police force, justice system and civil agencies. They should be able to tackle this but we know very well they are all corrupt and are a failure and secretly support the terrorists extremists with foreign support.

The matter is clear that the army through rangers needs to take control of all police stations in Pakistan for at least 2 years and train new officers and this will greatly improve security. Also military courts need to function all over Pakistan. Then new civil institution needs to be trained so we have a great defence for the 21st century.

However no action is done regarding this except in Karachi. In Punjab Nawaz Shareef won't allow it. In Karachi MQM is opposing it. In Sindh the PPP won't allow it. In Balochistan the Baloch nationalist won't allow it. In KPK PTI was against military action against the TTP but recently did hear Imran Khan statements that rangers are welcome in KPK.

So to be fair if Pakistan army wants to get involved in internal security then please start from the fed government and punjab then move on to Sindh Karachi and then Balochistan and KPK.

There are three things that need to happen without wasting much time. All so called political elite needs to be put under tanks, replaced by hardcore nationalist technocrats for atleast a decade, sharp minds in their respective fields, and the actual ops needs to be done inside enemy states territories. Those who are sitting in comfy of their offices planning another terrorist activity against people of Pakistan must be blown sky high. Fear of God must be put in the hearts of their kind.

Otherwise keep on doing these combing ops internally, the result will be the same down the line.
