Trying to solve everything with wine is not the solution. If Linux wants to be taken seriously in the PC market then it must have some killer native apps like Office, photoshop and outlook. This was the very philosophy which led to the demise of IBM's OS/2. IBM said that because OS/2 can run WIndows and DOS apps it should turn out just fine. It had IBM's full blessing. This was in a time when phrase "
Nobody got fired for choosing IBM" was still in vogue. But very few businesses opted for OS/2 as many preferred DOS and later WIndows 95 and OS/2 met an untiemly demise. I am not saying that Linux will go the way of OS/2 but far from it. Linux has major share in speciality applications like you mentioned Super computers and servers. What it lacks is killer apps and games. Yes even one good game will convince gamers to go for Linux just like mario series is enough a justification to buy nintendo's toys.
