I have a dream ( may come true ),
as the relationship is warming between US and Vietnam, I hope Vietnam could get some squadron of F-35As at the time China put J-20 in service. Maybe 10 years later? And unit price should be under 100 million ?
With TPP deal signed this year, I expect Vietnam could benefit our economy to make an order of 24-36 F-35A in 2025-2026

US relations with india was as bad as with vietnam in 70s. Current developments are an indicator of our flexibillity I suppose.

10 years down the line, F35 would have got other major upgrades (guns & sensors) and surely the pressure on the production lines would get eased of from our previous delivery contracts with canada/japan/canada etc. Vietnam can be a future customer of the platform.

Also vietnam would need it to ward off chinese attempts to foment tensions.

In Vietnam military forum estimation, the purchasing plan for Vietnam Airforce until 2020 is still Su-30 based
3 squadrons of Su-30MK-2V ( the last squadron on delivery )
2 squadrons of Su-30SM-V ( newly signed )
