INS Vikramaditya may take more time to come to India

I think we had enough mocking at the Russians for the INS viky delay, but it's time we should look at a different aspect, i wanted to know if the carrier is worth the wait, i know it's capabilities but what i wanna know is where will it stand as far as other powerful navies are concerned? + what additional capabilities it will give over INS viraat (apart from the 4.5 gen mig 29s).

Well compared to the currentl sole ACC in the IOR the Vikramditya is a HUGE step up and that is primarily because of the MIG-29K. Being able to sail anywhere in the world with 25-30 high-performance state of the art, supersonic 4.5++ gen fighters is a not somthing to overlook. Addtionally the IN has insited on some hefty upgrades and the Viky is now quite a C&C platform. Addtionally another feather in the Vikramditya's cap is the CBG it will be part of- 1-2 P-17/As, 1-2 P-15A/B,1-2 SSN/SSK,1-2 Support ships etc this is one deadly CBG all told and as a CBG it is up there with the best- behind the USN purely because the SupperCarriers the CBG is centered around is in another leage especially in respect to the Viky but the IN escorts more than hold their own in relation to the USN's escprts in CBGs. So the Vikramditya CBG could be 2nd or 3rd when you look at the nations with active ACCs-Spain,France,US,Brazil,Thailand,Russia. Probobly 3rd as the Charles De Guale is one mean ACC.

One aspect which seems to be missing or I may put it as lagging is ASW capability of the CBG !!

Nobody knows what is up with Arihant.. ( compared to the big mouth DRDO, arihant has been under complete wrap though )

Absolutely, just 1 or 2 pics of it available on net, that too of it's launching ceremony, don't know if it will turn out to be gem or just another DRDO bubble :D

CADS-N-1 Kashtan CIWS along with the 9M311 is a SACLOS guided missiles are very impressive systems, we have 8 of them on board on INS Vikramditya.

The P-17s are out and out multi-role firgates and their ASW capability is up there with past dedicated ASW vessels. Once the deal for MRHs is signed the S-70B (likely winner) will add yet more teeth to the CBG's ASW capbility.

That is fine dude but what about the sub arm of the CBG ? We don't have SSNs

Well if there's a problem that is thrown up by the trails then it would have to sail back to Russia for re-design/modification. It is simply unnessercary and would be a waste of time potenitally. The IN is a proffesional force they're not willing to accept a sub-standard product, they will wait until it meets all their exacting standards before sailing it to India.

There is no tearing hurry otherwise. Not until the IN has to go to war. Now, is there one in the works?
