INS Satpura : Second P-17 stealth frigate commissioning tomorrow

But the article above says Brahmos is too heavy to carry for this frigates and only destroyers carry???

Atleast 2-3 would have been nice..

I think he is wrong here. Upcoming Talwar class frigates which is much smaller than P-17 carrying Brahmos. A 6000 ton ship should easily carry Brahmos, even small corvettes can carry Brahmos.

Actually the Russian Frigates did have some problems putting Brahmos due to small size...... but all the newer Indian Frigates are designed to be bigger and hence are mounted with 8 brahmos missiles each..... the Russian reluctancy to have brahmos on their ship can also be attributed to the fact that they already operate similar missiles and doesn't have the threat high threat levels as compared to that for Indian Navy...... plus even longer range supersonic missiles are available on their large destroyers and battle cruisers.

Ajai Shukla reporting First P-15A likely to be inducted by the end of next year. :smokin:

Can't wait for the third warship to be inducted. These are the largest stealth frigates in the world. But Kolkata class are billed to be better especially the proposed 15 b's. Meanwhile enjoy the image below.

Thx. Not "thin-skinned cry baby", but "do not suffer fools gladly"!

Project 15-A's first vessel, the INS Kolkata, is likely to take a year more. Look for it in the fourth quarter of 2012.

@ Joydeep

We have been manufacturing the Otomelara for many years now.

Project 17A will have broadly the same specs as Project 17. There will be three ships in Project 17 and seven ships in Project 17A.

I think the 24 Klub is a typographic error. It's too great to be true. But who knows, may also be true.

Yes it is

24 refers to 24 BUK Short range SAMs which complement 32 BARAK SAMS

There is some ambiguity in reports..If these are too small to carry Brahmos then how come Brahmos is being planned for P-17A..? Shivalik Class itself is 6200 Tons. Destroyers start from ~7000 tons. Even if they stretch this Shivalik class, why call it a frigate..?

That is simple mistake. There were models of corvettes carrying Brahmos in various expos. like this...
