With President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi who are expected to attend the International Fleet Review (IFR) in Visakhapatnam in February next year, DRDO and Indian Navy are sweating it hard to make the event special by Showcasing India’s indigenously developed nuclear submarine INS Arihant at the event.

Naval Sources who have informed to idrw.org that INS Arihant might make its International debut at International Fleet Review (IFR) in Visakhapatnam which will see participation from 50 nations, including the US, China and Japan but warned it will happen only if INS Arihant Successfully competes few tests which have been planned for the submarine later this year.

DRDO Chief Dr. S Christopher few weeks back had confirmed that INS Arihant is currently been armed with B-05/K-15 India’s first Submarine launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) with range of over 700km and first test firing from the submarine likely will take place by year-end, but it is not confirmed if it is related to Missile firing tests.

International Fleet Review (IFR) will take place between February 5 to 8 which is to be held in port city Visakhapatnam. India had invited 79 countries of which 37 have already confirmed participation. It is expected that nearly 50 countries will confirm their participation by year end.

I hope Arihant will be able to meet the timeline and attend the IFR ...... then we will get some good quality images of the vessel .

. . .
Navy is making elaborate arrangements for the meet and Top Naval Commanders are keen to Showcase INS Arihant at the event which will see heavy attendance from VVIPS but it still can be no Show if there is some level of objection from other Agencies or NSA Ajit Doval who has been critical of the program and wants to keep Submarine away from the limelight .

NSA was pissed off when first video leaked , he might object again

These are my thoughts too- there is no need to showcase this project to anyone. Those who need to know about this project will know, everyone else should be left to speculate. What is to be gained by such a public display of such a secretive piece of hardware?

I'm liking Mr Doval more and more- he takes a very holistic approach to the security of India.

Your 'no-first strike' doctrine depends upon credibility. Completely under-wrapped presence is actually good with tactical weapons (nighhawk), but strategic weapons you need a bit of a show to let people know that you're not just bluffing.

So would we get good quality images.

Point taken.

However I feel that those who need to know on the other side (Mil intelligence/planners) will be aware of the progress of this project to one degree or another, they hardly requires such displays to know, or at least suspect, the capabilities of India. Showcasing such a system at such an event seems more aimed at the general public and they hardly need to know about these things.

I think it's quite standard practice. If you look at the US during the cold war, a lot of information and visuals about the nuclear submarines as well as the Polaris missile systems were publicly available. But then info around the Nighhawk and the stealth helo used for Osama raid were kept out of public view altogether.

Hopefully we will be Abel to see them soon

Showing this great success of Indian ship builders is not going to reveal its secrets. This Submarine must be allowed to take part in fleet review provided it passes all its tests

naa u will get some B-05 missiles armed with nukes:p:

navy can show all the equipment and ships they want, but not the arihant, it does not belong to the navy but is part of the nuclear triad.....that is under the strategic forces command and president........navy can show their SSN, conventional subs , ships, aircraft carrier......but do not showcase the secret brahmastra......:( mr doval wants to keep it away from cameras, because it belongs to India's second strike capability.......and these SSBN's will be the one with responsibility to bring hell on earth:cry:
