Injury and insult: ‘He raped me, now claims I am his wife’

Injury and insult:

BAHAWALPUR:
“My late husband’s brother raped me and now claims that I had married him,” a woman- mother of four- told media persons on Monday.

Saima Bibi* said that she had complained to the police but they had sided with her in-laws.

Saima Bibi, a resident of Khanqah Sharif, Basti Bahaar Borana near Bahawalpur, said that she had been married to Muhammad Akhtar and had had four children with him. Her in-laws did not approve of their marriage. She said that Akhtar had died four years ago. Saima Bibi said that her brother-in-law Hafiz Zahoor Ahmed had asked her to marry him but she had refused. “My in-laws then refused to give me my share in the property, business and cattle and would often harass me,” she said.

“On June 4, Zahoor came armed to my room at 2am and threatened to shoot me if I shouted,” Saima Bibi said, “Then he raped me.” She said that she then went to her father-in-law but he said that he did not believe her.

She said that she went with her brother Aslam to file a complaint at the Samma Satta police station. The police she said had registered a case on court orders but they struck a deal with her in-laws and did not arrest anyone.

“Now my in-laws claim that I had married Zahoor,” she said, “Zahoor, has paid a nikah khawan, Maulvi Azam, Rs200,000 to say that he had registered my nikah with Zahoor.”

She said that she had not married Zahoor and was a widow. Saima Bibi’s family too told the media that she had not married Zahoor. They said that the investigation officer had advised Zahoor to make that claim.

Saima Bibi said that Zahoor wanted to usurp her children’s right to inheritance.

She appealed to the inspector general, the chief minister and the chief justice to take notice of her ordeal and provide her justice.

India need to bring death penalty for rapists, acid attackers etc and have to change this old law system.
Btw what can we expect when more then 500+ MLA have rape charge or women teasing charge.

One question to all rape thread starters - how you people help the forum, society by opening such threads ? You people never discuss the solution, law issue. Only do bashing other country and religion. It's like doing self pleasing activity in your boring life. Where you people never tried to be a part of solution but do negative critcize others.

such is the state of affairs in the country, bloody sick morons.
usually in society it is often SAID to the widow to marry the brother of the deceased husband, and in most cases such things do happen, but end of the day Woman should be given choice.
There have been few such cases in my village were woman was married to the brother, but it was all done to save a face in the society.

I understand why in laws said to her to marry the brother - just to save their own face , but it was our choice if she refused.....

Such culture needs to change in the country

1. This thread is about Pakistan NOT India. Seems you don't have knowledge about names of your own cities of your own country.

2. every crime against women be posted here whether some bughead wants to discuss or NOT. Indeed We are doing good service to the women cause. Bash my country as much as you want BUT such reporting do spread information to the world for change indeed.

Violence against women should be considered a serious crime and strict laws should be framed. Fast track justice is also needed.

Strict laws for every crime are there in place. fast track justice is lagging behind.

Justice delayed justice denied

I agree, There should also be awareness of these laws in the women community so that they can use these laws effectively.

Media should also support them in case

Simple solutions:-

1) Treat marital rape as rape.

2) Need certainty of punishment more than the severity of punishment.

I dont see any end in sight... south asia is actually a pretty violent place..
