It isn’t often that a teenage girl sways the might of the 300,000-strong Indonesian Army, but that’s what Faye Simanjuntak did in helping to bring an end to the senior service’s controversial practice of conducting virginity tests on female recruits.

Using her popular Instagram account, she was uniquely placed to push the case. She is the daughter of Major-General Maruli Simanjuntak, the former commander of the Presidential Security Force and the current chief of the Bali-based Nusa Tenggara regional command.

She is also the fiercely independent granddaughter of powerful Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Panjaitan, himself a former four-star special forces general who did nothing to discourage the young campaigner, even helping her initiate discussions with some of his colleagues on a practice she describes as “detestable.”

Faye has told friends that without exception, all the female soldiers she came across during the course of her campaign had been subjected to virginity tests. She now believes there should be accountability for those who have defended the practice in the past.

Once part of the military chain of command, the Indonesian National Police quietly ended the tests in 2015, a year after New York-based HRW first raised the issue, describing it as “abusive, degrading and discriminatory.

”Women make up about 15% of Indonesia’s 400,000 service personnel, but the highest percentage are in the navy and air force, which have yet to follow Perkasa’s lead. Says HRW’s Indonesian director, Andreas Harsono: “If there aren’t other factors, I think they will.”

It hasn’t been easy to break down barriers. In 2015, then-TNI chief General Moeldoko, now President Widodo’s chief of staff, claimed the virginity test was aimed at bringing forward the most qualified female soldiers, without bothering to explain the logic behind his assertion.

I think it has to do with being unmarried requirement. Many militaries requires cadets to be unmarried and free of martial obligations for their years of training.

What is that got to do with virginity test?

My wife is a virgin. Marry virgin is the highest thing you get ever get on this earth. After taking her body, she give everything to you.

She listen to you and be very obedient.

Idk, I don’t want to be captain obvious, Indonesian is a Muslim country, people suppose not have sex before marriage.
So it got nothing to do with married or not? Btw, Indonesia is not Muslim country. It is a Republic and Muslim majority country only.

Women who can uphold virginity will have stronger will power against corruption and temptations.

You do not want to entrust important public matters to whore.

I am sure it has to do with marriage (unmarried is official requirement in countries ) and if not married and not virgin, than it’s a indication of moral turpitude and automatic unfit for military.
Indonesian is a Muslim country in practice. Doesn’t matter how constitutionally it’s worded.

I am completely against this tests in case you don't get me wrong.. They should end them now that being said there is alot of romantic scandals and dating in the military that civilians are not aware off and this is also the issue in Pakistan and the same case in Indonesia it is more rapid. I would say this is the issue in most Asian countries you could run into alot of military soldiers who are married.. Places like Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Singepore, South Korea etc etc I can keep going on..

When you have young people both Female and Male who are healthy and in great shape due to exercises and constant training. High harmones + youth + good health + being in great shape = one massive fuk around

Why is this test was for Women only? what about men?

Men don't have a hymen, it makes the test physically impossible to do. :p:
Also men don't have husbands who'll tell them what to do.
Also the sort of men who do have husbands you don't want in an army.

==============

I'm glad they got rid of the test, it's a pointless test to have.

I personally believe the armed forces are no place for women. Armies are used for combat, a sphere were men have natural superiority over women. Before all the smart arses tell me i'd get beaten up by a heavyweight female MMA fighter or whatever - armies fight trained soldier to trained soldiers, in 99% of cases men are going to have a physical advantage over women. The use of women in non combat roles as window dressing for wokeness in armed forces is daft in my opinion.

HOWEVER - if you are going to kowtow to wokeness and have females in your armed forces - then i see no point checking if their virgins or not.

There is one more good reason to deploy female soldiers which is especially in the case of US army. The female serve as a sexual outlets in replacement of military prostitute.

The US people are so hyper sexx in their home country that it is inconceivable to deploy them without female to fk.

There is nothing to do with form of government whether Republic or Kingdom. Islam is close to Democracy as first Caliph, Abu Bakar, was elected through debate and voting and the other 3 Caliphs use debate and acclamation.

In Quran we have a surah which is As-Syura, who order Muslim to solve their dispute and organize state through consultation of the people. Do you think Taliban who solve the dispute through war and become so autoritariant is a representatif of real Islam ? LOL

The policy change doesnt have anything to do with that female activist. Many are against the policy and we are glad Army General change the policy since that is unnecessary.

Andika Perkasa, Army General
