They may not have diplomatic relations but a rep of the Indonesian Security Council was spotted at the Homeland Security conference in Tel Aviv this week.

Israel and Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country in the world, may not have diplomatic relations but they could yet develop an intense cyber-relationship. Who came to a Homeland Security conference held in Tel Aviv this week? A representative of the highest Security Council of Indonesia, which is responsible, among other things, for building the nation's cyber protection and warfare infrastructure, that's who.

The Indonesian official, a guest of Ramzi Gabbay, chairman of the Israeli Export Institute (an arm of the Ministry of Industry and Trade), roamed the conference without a badge, though other attendees had them.

Gabbay has been working on forging alliances between Israel and Indonesia: and a delegation from Indonesia is expected to visit Israel soon.

While Israel and Indonesia have never had diplomatic relations, there is trade between the nations, amounting to $750 million in 2008 and $450 million in 2009, the last year for which figures are available.

In 2009, the two nations established the Israel-Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, under the auspices of the Israel-Asia Chamber of Commerce. The Israel-Indonesia chamber is headed by Emanuel Shahaf, a former Israeli diplomat and CEO of the firm Technology Asia Consulting.

What ties Israel and Indonesia do have are reportedly the brainchild of Abdurrahman Wahid, better known as Gus Dur, who was the president of Indonesia from October 20, 1999 to July 23, 2001, when he was ousted on suspicions of corruption. According to Ehud Gonen, former Israeli trade attaché in Singapore, Wahid was also a member of the Peres Center for Peace. In 2001 he issued a directive repealing the ban on business between Indonesian and Israeli companies.

That's what Muslim leaders do best; allying themselves with the very butchers of Muslims and with those who are plotting against them...

God bless Iran...

A country allies with another for the betterment of one or both, not to spread religion.

Actually, Indonesia is not a muslim country and will never be a muslim country, and Indonesia have her own interests. We have got nothing to do with Israel's problem so why can't we open cooperation with them? Israel, although have no embassy in Indonesia, have been doing good business here than the rest of muslim countries. I am a Muslim, and doing cooperation with Israel doesn't mean I am a jew right? country to country cooperation, has nothing to do with religion.

Israel is paying good attention to Indonesia.

Israeli Mfa Asks Usg To Broker Opening To Indonesia

ummary: In an August 26 meeting with PolCouns senior MFA officials Kahanoff and Ben-Abba asked for U.S. help, prior to the scheduled November visit of President Obama to Indonesia, in facilitating the development of Israeli-Indonesian relations. Specifically, they asked if President Obama would raise the issue in his meetings in Jakarta as part of the broader U.S. effort to normalize relations with the Muslim world. Kahanoff also noted that Japanese Middle East envoy Imura has already agreed to reach out to the Indonesians during a visit to Jakarta scheduled for the week of August 31. Israel has several suggested goals for such outreach: formalizing communications between the two countries; the establishment of mutual representation or trade offices; and the facilitation of visa issuance. End Summary.

Indonesia, during the leadership of Abdurrahman Wahid was in the process for the opening of Israeli Embassy. Unfortunately, he was ousted for corruption. The process has never been done, but Israel do have a chamber of commercial allowing Indonesian businessman to invest in Israel and helping Israeli businessman to do business in Indonesia.

Dude, Ottoman empire is dead.

Come back to this century.

Your country's practicality in world politics is impressive.

Please teach some of our dear neighbors here in South Asia that country-country dealing has nothing to do with religion.

They're stuck in a time warp.

Maybe they can start minding their own business, there's an Indonesian old saying, it says "one can't develop himself when he can see an ant in the end of the world but fail to see an elephant in front of his nose." That saying teach us to mind ourselves first before minding another people's things.

yes he isn't representing Indonesia, most of Indonesian, like my self disagree with Israel's policy towards Palestinian. But he represented the business and cooperation between the two countries. And "IF" he's not even a muslim doesn't mean he can't be a representative for Indonesia right? well in case you forget, there are 5 official religions in our country.
