Japan invaded northeast China in September 1931 and conducted the full-scale invasion on July 7, 1937, when a bridge that acted as a crucial access point to Beijing was attacked by the Japanese. Since then Chinese people began 8-year War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Famous historian Zhang Dongpan got old photos about China, the main battlefield in Asia during WWII, which reminds us of those war-ridden years. (Photo/Chinadaily.com)

It's a pity that we had such a girly coward party called KMT.WIth a mindly stronger party we would fought much better.

Indeed, if Japanese meet the PLA in the 1949, I bet they will be isolated and eliminated in no time. Not to forget, Japanese airforce are virtually ineffective in supporting ground troops.

Sad pictures, especially that of the orphans who seem so happy despite the sadness of being orphaned. All these people would be over 80 years old today and most of them would be dead. Memories of another day

After all, mighty PLA had totally crushed KMT in 4 years which japs couldn't achieve with millions of jap soldiers. No doubt about that. It's more amazing that when japs have retreat,PLA only have 1.5 million soldiers, only 1/3 of KMT,but still crush them like hell.

Heart wrenching amazing pictures.. It needs a heart unheard to still laugh after being orphaned BT invadors. The Chinese are not a nation that will surrender or give up so easily. This trait of theirs has seen them rise up as a strong power multiple times in history. A fine trait to have in a nation indeed.

Thanks for your appreciation!

We have experienced foreign invasions, natural disasters so many times plus our civil war, internal turmoils

Just one country - Japan alone has a very horrible record in history invading us:

These are soldiers of the Chinese Red Army (红军), not the Nationalist army. The photo was taken by Harrison Forman (ID: fr207983) in Shaanxi province and is dated 1937. Note the red star on their caps.

Although every little bit of effort into the War against Japan was appreciated, I would still have to decry the use of child soldiers during the war.

There is just something wrong with the fact that you're letting the ones who you are supposed to protect, to fend for themselves. Or in this case actively getting them involved with the horrors of warfare. A child that age (except maybe for pic #2) should be playing with toys, not guns or grenades. And back then, it was not as if we were running out of adults (both men and women) who could fight THEIR war instead. What parent would insist on his own little children to fight instead of themselves? So why should you condone YOUR young child fighting some other adult's fight?
