Indo-Singapore Joint AF Training Ends

IIRC this is an old pic- I have seen this a few times before this year.

This is interesting- I didn't know the RSAF used the DASH as the HMDS on their F-16s. What is interesting is they have elected not to go for the US made JHMCS as used on pretty much all other upgraded F-16s (indcluding PAF's) but have gone for a third-party HMDS from Isreal (and the same one used on the LCA btw!). Does this indicate the JHMCS is a poor performer?

The first successful HMD outside South Africa and the Soviet Union was the Israeli Air Force Elbit DASH series, fielded in conjunction with the Python 4, in the early 1990s. American and European fighter HMDs lagged behind, not becoming widely used until the late 1990s and early 2000s (decade). The US-UK-Germany responded initially with a combined ASRAAM effort. Technical difficulties led to the US abandoning ASRAAM, instead funding development of the AIM-9X and the Joint Helmet-Mounted Cueing System in 1990.

BTW, JHMCS is the latest of any sort of HMDs(including DASH series).

Considering the RSAF only got their BLK 62s recently the fact is the JHMCS was avalible to the RSAF at that time but instead they chose to go for the DASH. And the DASH-III they have got is not 1980s tech but the very latest they offer and is state of the art. They have made a concious descion to go with the DASH. maybe it is because of intergration issues with the Israeli missiles or maybe it is because they founf the DASH to be superior.

Look at how many DASH are in service and how many JHMCS are in service? It is deployed on almost 2500 aircrafts around the world, that itself speaks for the technology. As fanboys, we don't have the level of info required to compare these two systems, but looking at the success of JHMCS, i would off course put my money on that system.

JHMCS was built with Israel's Elbit as the primary design partner. The JHMCS is based on Israel's Dash 3. The ones going on LCA is the Israeli Dash 4

It's a good point but considering that the US most often sells package deals with its a/c and once you are a buyer of US equipment you are pretty much looked into their future upgrades and supplies means that is it no concidence there is a high usage of the JHMCS not to mention the US themselves are the biggest operators and they must account for 2000++ units on their own.

Singapore, being a city state, has a shortage of land and airspace to effectivly train its pilots in Sinagapore as such the RSAF sought out a freindly nation with the correct infrastructure with whom to enter into an agreement to train on their soil. India naturally was more than hospitable to the Singaporean's call for assistance. As such the RSAF now has atleast 1 SQD of advanced F-16 BLK 62s based at an Indian AFB year round for training purposes, for which it compensates the IAF for of course. It is just an added bonus for India that it gets a close (very close) look at a more advanced version of the birds its main threat flys and gets to train with them. I've heard of Aggressor SQDs but the IAF has got to have the best deal in the world- getting intimate knowledge of an adversary's front line fighter and getting paid to do so!!

+ there is a similar deal with the Singarporean army in India as well!

i didn't know bout that mate....can you give me some more info?

Both are barely speculations and don't tell us something about the capability, because there are different reasons why Singapore have chosen Dash and why others have not. The first is commonality, if Singapore had Dash helmets for their earlier F16s and all combined with Israeli missiles, choosing JHMCS for the later B52 doesn't really makes sense from a logistical point of view. On the other side, the number of sold JHMCS is only so high, because the number of sold F16s is high as well, while most F16s operators had never a choice to buy another HMS, or just rejected it / it was not available because it's Israeli techs. So without comparing the specs and capabilities of the helmets, you won't find out which one is better.

What the hell Singapore is doing with the Scatland air force? Oh yes, it is becasue the US had insisted Singapore to train with the Scatlanders in view of strengthening the interoperability of all Asian againsnt China given also that it is the US who is supplying the main weaponry to Singapore.
Singapore is a Chinese country, all Singaporeans except the 5% black manba tamil, are pro-China and want to pay tribute and return to visit their mainland country. Singapore is mainly doing business with China and Mandarin, the Han language, is spoken and written fluently by all Chinese Singaporeans. So what the hell Singapore is doing with Scatland?.

Nobody wants to train with the purelanders.

I thought this was a foregone conclusion. The RSAF rents a IAF AFB on a yearly lease so they deploy their assets accordingly.

Old news from 2005

Singapore to use IAF station to train personnel

Singapore Air Force would use facilities at Kalaikunda Air Force Station in West Bengal [ Images ] to train its personnel early 2006, a senior Indian Air Force official said Friday.

Singapore will send F-16 aircraft in January 2006 to carry out training programmes for its air force personnel.

The IAF air-to-ground range at Dega near Kalaikunda and the air-to-air range at Chandipur-on-Sea would be utilised for the purpose, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Air Marshal A K Singh told reporters in Chandigarh.

"Singapore will pay the Indian government for the use of air space as well as facilites at the air base, including landing and parking charges," he said on the sidelines of the inaugural function of annual maintenance conference of Western Air Command.

Pointing out that Singapore Air Force's joint exercises with the IAF were also scheduled, Singh said the United Kingdom plans to conduct the same with the IAF in India [ Images ].

On IAF's purchases in near future, he said India plans to buy 45 medium transport aircraft carriers from Russia [ Images ] and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [ Images ] would be finalising the deal during his visit to that country in the coming months.

Upgraded simulators to train pilots have been installed at Gwalior and Hindon air bases, besides another imported one at Bangalore air base, Singh said commenting on accidents involving the IAF aircraft.

The joint Indo-US military exercises were held earlier in November at Kalaikunda Air Force Station in West Midnapore district amidst statewide protests by activists of ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist and other Left parties.
