An army jawan was shot dead in unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops at Gulpur on Thursday, and another was found dead with a bullet wound under mysterious circumstances close to the border in Poonch district. Sources said that sepoy Deepak Jaganath sustained a bullet injury in the head when Pakistani troops suddenly resorted to small arms fire in Gulpur area along the Line of Control in Poonch district. The jawan succumbed to the bullet injury while on way to a hospital, sources said, adding that Indian troops retaliated and the exchange of small arms fire continued for nearly 15 minutes.

On the same day, another army jawan was found dead under mysterious circumstances, while another sustained a bullet injury in unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Poonch district. Identifying the deceased jawan as sepoy Balraj Singh, a resident of Punjab, sources said that he was posted at Draba in Surankote area of Poonch district. Sources said that the jawan’s body was found inside his camp with gunshot wounds on Thursday morning.

While the army ordered an inquiry into the matter, a police team was rushed to the spot from Surankote for proibnd the incident. However, army officials were tight-lipped over the matter.

Meanwhile, Border Security Force and Pakistani Rangers held a flag meeting in Suchetgarh area and committed to each other to maintain peace and tranquility at the international border. Both sides also decided to “re-energize instant communication between field commanders, whenever required, to resolve petty matters”, an official release here said, adding the meeting was held following the request by the Pakistan side.

The Indian side was led by DIG BSF Jammu, P S Dhiman and Pakistani Rangers by Brigadier Amjad Hussain, Sector Commander Chenab Rangers, Sialkote Punjab. It was the first sector commander level meeting between two border guarding forces since heavy shelling and firing disrupted peace along the international border in October/November last year, coupled with various unsuccessful infiltration attempts including recent detection of a cross border tunnel in Ramgarh sector and killing of three terrorists.

During the meeting, BSF raised the issue of recent detection of cross border tunnel, forced infiltration attempts from Pakistan side as also the return of constable Sohan Lal of Jammu Kashmir Police who had inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan side in 2014, besides other issues concerning border management.

Serious question:

Is this imaginary "Sir G Kal" strike going to become a part of Indian school syllabus now? Just like all those "inventions" including inter-galactic travel, thermonuclear weapons etc. by Vedic "scientists"?

Do you think repeating a lie over and over and over and over again will finally make it a "fact"?

http://indianexpress.com/article/in...-babulal-chavan-cites-regional-peace-4485808/

Almost four months after he “inadvertently” crossed the Line of Control (LoC), Sepoy Chandu Babulal Chavan, 22, was handed over by the Pakistani authorities to the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Wagah border crossing on Saturday afternoon. Islamabad said he was being released on “humanitarian grounds”, as a “gesture of goodwill” and to “maintain peace and tranquility” along the LoC.

Chavan, who was posted with 37 Rashtriya Rifles at Mendhar along the LoC, crossed to the Pakistani side on September 29, the morning after the Special Forces launched “surgical strikes” on terrorist launch pads across the LoC. The government had claimed he had “inadvertently” crossed over.

Although Pakistani authorities were informed the same day, Islamabad only acknowledged his presence on October 7. After that, the matter of his release was raised during DGMO-level talks. With no assurance coming from the Pakistani side, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) approached the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which took up the issue with Islamabad.

The Indian High Commission in Islamabad also raised the issue with the Pakistani government. There were indications in last week’s conversation between the two DGMOs that Chavan could be released soon, although no date was given.

Chavan’s release was announced today by Pakistan military’s Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). “As a gesture of goodwill and in continuation of our efforts to maintain peace and tranquility along LoC and WB, Sepoy Chandu Babulal Chohan (Chavan) has been convinced to return to his own country and will be handed over to Indian authorities at Wagah border on humanitarian grounds,” it said in a statement.

This was followed by a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry. “Pakistan has handed over an Indian soldier, Chandu Babulal Chohan (Chavan), to Indian authorities this afternoon (21 January) at 1430 hrs through Wagah border,” it said.

“The decision of the government of Pakistan to return the Indian soldier is based on humanitarian grounds and the commitment to ensure peace and tranquility at the LoC and the working boundary… Despite Indian belligerence, Pakistan believes in a peaceful neighbourhood and rejects all actions aimed at undermining regional peace and security,” said a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, according to PTI.

The MoD said it was informed about the development at 1 pm on Saturday. Chavan was scheduled to be handed over at Wagah at 3 pm, and was finally handed over at 3:45 pm, said the ministry.

Chavan, who is from Borvihir village in Dhule district of Maharashtra, was received by BSF personnel, and later handed over to the Army. Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre, who met him in Amritsar, said he would be allowed to meet his family after following due procedure.

He will first undergo a detailed medical examination at the Amritsar Military Hospital, following which he will be debriefed by personnel from the Military Intelligence Directorate.

Soldier Chandu Babulal Chavan, who had inadvertently crossed the Line of Control (LoC) after the Army's surgical strike in Azad Kashmir last year, today returned home in north Maharashtra.

Chandu, who hails from Borvihir village in Dhule district, reached his village to a rousing reception by his family and the locals.

His brother Bhushan Chavan said it will be a happy Holi for the family as Chandu has returned after six months.

The 22-year-old jawan from 37 Rashtriya Rifles had gone missing on September 29 last year after he inadvertently crossed the LoC and stepped into the Pakistan soil. The Pakistan Army had immediately took him into captivity.

Unable to bear the agonising news, Chandu's shocked grandmother, Leelabai, died of cardiac failure on October 1. Leelabai had brought up and looked after Chandu after he lost his parents when he was just a toddler.

"I will perform the ritual of 'Asthi Visarjan' of my grandmother after Holi," Chandu said.

Pakistan authorities had on January 21 handed him over to India. After his release, Chavan had told his family that he was brutally tortured and regularly injected with drugs during his four-month captivity.

His brother Bhushan, who is also an army jawan posted at Jamnagar in Gujarat, had claimed his brother had multiple injuries on his body, especially on the fingers of his right hand.

Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre accompanied Chandu till his village Borvihir today.

"I am happy that Chandu Chavan has been reunited with his family," Bhamre said.

Following ceasefire violations by Pakistan troops, Union Minister Jitendra Singh today said the people should trust the Modi government that it will give a "befitting" response to such acts.

"The concerned agencies will take into cognisance the chain of events that has taken place and you should trust the Modi government to give a befitting response", Singh told reporters here replying to questions about ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces.

In a second instance of ceasefire violation in less than 24 hours, Pakistani troops today had resorted to mortar shelling and firing by automatic weapons along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, which prompted the army to retaliate.

"Indian government and security agencies are capable of meeting any kind of challenge and you will see the results in days to come", Singh, a Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), said.

The minister chose not answer questions about handing over of two boys from Azad Kashmir to Pakistani authorities after the NIA dropped charges of conspiracy in the Uri terror strike.

"I am not able to reply to such sensitive issues which has security ramifications and concerned agencies has to deal with this," Singh said.

Under detention for nearly six months, the two boys were handed over to Pakistani authorities after the probe agency NIA came to a conclusion that the two had strayed into the Indian side after tiff with their parents due to pressure of studies

Cross-LoC Poonch Rawlakote bus service was on Monday suspended as a precautionary measure in view of fierce exchange of fire and mortar shells between the armies of India and Pakistan.

The bus service has been suspended for a week.

The Pakistani troops earlier in the day fired along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch.

The Indian troop was hit by 82 mm mortar shells fired by the Pakistan Army in second incident of ‘unprovoked’ ceasefire violation in the last three days.

Troops from Pakistan opened fire four villages. There has been no casualty reported yet.

Amid strained relations between India and Pakistan against the backdrop of the Uri terror attack, Pakistani nationals earlier expressed that the trans-Line of Control (LoC) trade between the two hostile countries through the Poonch-Rawlakot route should remain normal at Chakkan-da-Bagh in Poonch district.
