Three soldiers were killed after militants opened fire on an army convoy in Pampore in Pulwana district on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the Army said on Saturday. Search operation is underway. Security forces have cordoned off the adjoining residential area and launched search operation to track down the militants, a police official said.

“Terrorists attacked, security forces retaliated. Public was present so we couldn’t fire openly but terrorists were forced to run away,” said IG (Operations) CRPF. NDTV reported the army bus was part of the convoy and was coming from Jammu.

A police official said two soldiers were also injured in the attack that took place at the place crowded with civilians at Kadlabal in Pampore town of Pulwama district this afternoon.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the militants might have used motorcycles to carry out the deadly attack, the official said, adding search operations were going on in the surrounding areas to track down the assailants.

Two militants were killed on Wednesday in separate encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The encounters took place in Anantnag and Baramulla districts. Militants opened fire on a patrol party of army at Beewra in Srigufwara area of Anantnag district this morning, a police official said. He said the army personnel retaliated, triggering a gunbattle.

A civilian was killed on December 9 in firing at Arwani in south Kashmir as the Army and police launched an operation against militants.

http://indianexpress.com/article/india/high-level-security-meeting-after-pampore-attack/

A day after three Indian soldiers were killed in militant attack on an army convoy at Pampore on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, a high-level security meeting was held in Srinagar. The focus of the meeting was on devising foolproof security mechanism for national highway.

The Director General of Police later held a meeting with Srinagar-based Corps Commander Lt Gen J S Sandhu and discussed implementation of different decisions with regard to strengthening and augmentation of security setup across Kashmir Valley.

At the meeting with officials of police, army and paramilitary forces, Kumar emphasised the need for greater coordination and cooperation among the various forces and agencies. The meeting was held at District Police office in Awantipora in south Kashmir, some kms away from Pampore where terrorists struck at an army convoy yesterday, killing three soldiers.

Addressing the meeting, the Director General of Police asked the officers to devise a foolproof plan for the national highway for safe and secure movement of the people and the security forces, a police spokesman said here. Kumar asked the army to strengthen the corridor protection and asked the CRPF to finetune the Road Opening Parties (RoPs) along the highway.

While highlighting the need of tackling the militancy effectively, the DGP said surgical operations with minimum collateral damages should be conducted. In their respective briefs, the officers gave details of the security arrangements made by their organisations for the highway, the spokesman said.

Earlier, Kashmir Zone Inspector General of Police S J M Gillani briefed the meeting about the security situation of south Kashmir and also highlighted recent operations conducted against the militants, he said.

South Kashmir has recently witnessed a number of terror attacks, including two bank robberies. The DGP told the meeting about the measures taken by the police to investigate and solve the bank robberies.

Earlier in the day, the Army paid floral tributes to the three soldiers killed in a militant attack. Many officials from the civil administration, including Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan were also present on the occasion.

http://zeenews.india.com/news/india...mba-kathua-rajbagh-last-year-nia_1960305.html
Delhi: The blasts in Tangdhar, Samba, Kathua and Rajbagh in Jammu and Kashmir last year is linked to Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), the chargesheet filed by NIA in the Pathankot terror attack case has revealed.

According to a report in The Times of India, Kashif Jan, main handler of Pathankot attackers, had claimed in his Facebook messages that he had planned the attacks at Kathua and Samba on March 20-21 last year.

Jan is said to have been in constant touch with the Pathankot attackers over phone during the strike.

Three people were killed in Kathua.

As per the NIA, documentary and digital evidence points to JeM's role in Samba and Rajbagh attacks too.

The terrorists had left two slips of paper in the Pathankot attack, which read as - "Jaish-e-Mohammad zindabad, Tangdhar se le kar Samba Kathua Rajbagh aur Delhi tak, Afzal Gurushaheed ke jan nisar tum ko milte rahenge."

The media house quotes from the chargesheet as follows - "The slips, along with other corroborative evidence, established they were JeM members based in Pakistan and that the attack was one of the series carried out by them after Tangdhar, Samba, Kathua, Rajbagh in revenge for the death of Afzal Guru".

On December 19, wrapping up investigations in the Pathankot airbase attack case, NIA had filed a chargesheet against JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, his brother and two others for hatching the conspiracy of the January 02 audacious terror strike that left seven personnel dead and 37 others injured.

The chargesheet was filed in the NIA court at Panchkula in which all the four have been slapped with charges under Indian Penal Code, Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Besides Azhar, his brother Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar and two handlers - Shahid Latif and Kashif Jan - have been named in the exhaustive chargesheet.

The terrorists were engaged in a gunfight only at 0320 hours of January two, 19 hours after they had entered the IAF base.

Giving details about the infiltration and activities of the four terrorists, the NIA said in its chargesheet that all the four terrorists underwent extensive motivational, physical, military and tactical training and were radicalized to carry out terror strikes in India, as per PTI.

The four terrorists armed with ammunition and other logistical items illegally crossed the Indo-Pak international border through the forest area near the Simbal Border Outpost on December 30.

Empty food packets manufactured in Pakistan and other food articles from the neighbouring country were recovered from the forest area near the Simbal Border Outpost, during investigation.

On December 16, Pakistan had violated ceasefire by targeting Indian positions along the LoC in Balakote sector of the same district.
One civilian was killed as Pakistani Army indulged in heavy cross border firing targeting Indian positions and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting the Indian side to retaliate.

“Pakistani troops targeted the Indian Army posts and civilian areas along the LoC in Poonch sector with small arms, automatic and mortars at 1655 hours,” an army officer said.

He said the army was retaliating strongly and effectively to the ceasefire violation.

One civilian identified as Tanveer Ahmed died when a shell fired by the Pakistani troops fell on his house. The civilians shifted him to the Poonch Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

On December 16, Pakistan had violated ceasefire by targeting Indian positions along the LoC in Balakote sector of the same district.

The ceasefire violation had come after a lull of over three weeks after the Indian troops had launched a counter- offensive against Pakistan on November 23 against the killing of three soldiers in the Machhil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

In the cross-LoC attack by suspected Pakistani terrorists, three Indian soldiers were killed on November 22, with body of one of them being mutilated. Following the incident, Indian Army had vowed a heavy “retribution”.

The 2003 India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement has virtually become redundant with over 300 incidents of firing and shelling along the LoC and IB in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistani troops.
