In lines with Air India's recent deal with Boeing and Airbus, IndiGo Airlines has announced an expansion plan to extend its service to more European destinations, including Turkey. In an interview, IndiGo's international sales head Vinay Malhotra told news agency ANI that the airline has partnered with Turkish Airlines and also ordered 500 aircrafts in a bid to improve further expand to Turkey and other locations in Europe.

The deal to acquire 500 aircrafts was made with the renowned international manufacturer Airbus and Boeing which will allow the airline to fly to 27 destinations in the continent. These locations are situated in nations including the UK, France, Italy, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland along with others. In order to make this work, IndiGo made a codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines as their flights ‘have multiple frequencies’ to these points.

“With our partnership with them as a codeshare we are able to carry passengers from India to Istanbul and from Istanbul to beyond,” Malhotra told ANI.

Reports of IndiGo's deal come days after the Tata Group-owned Air India made a purchase of 470 passenger aircrafts from the same manufacturers along with 370 optional buys that would be procured over the next decade.

He said IndiGo currently operates around 1,800 flights daily with 10% of them on international routes. “The farthest we travel is to Turkey and Istanbul. We have been very keen to fly further and that's why a partnership with Turkish airlines,” he added.

Malhotra further announced that IndiGo will launch two new points – Nairobi and Jakarta – in near future.

How can USA apply CAASTA on India for purchasing arms from Russia?

Purchasing power 💪 of india play important role on making such decisions, USA will do everything to give exemption from left to right.

I posted same on another thread but true here also, approx 1000 aircrafts..... :D

Wait for a week, Spice jet will announce a similar order.

By number of aircraft IndiGo is number 10 in the world.
By revenue and passengers carried we have none in the top 10.

China has 3 in top 10 in both the categories. Even small countries like Germany, Spain and Turkey have one each in the top 10 list.

This shows the potential in the sector. If Tata and IndiGo dont mess up, sky is the limit for them.

This government has done great job in promoting this sector.

Than why not asking for local manufacturing In india?

50-50 rule should get applied here.

Already a lot of local manufacturing going on. But most importantly they can't wait till manufacturing is set up and running.

1000 aircrafts and nothing local ... This shows that BJP Govt is now unable to pull the strings with USA and EU. Ideally, with alomost 1500 aricrafts in order, Indian Govt must have pushed to local manifacturing. Just for 15Billion deal, if u can push Lockheed Martin to have local production, then, why cant for civilian aircrafts ?? I wont celebrate this :(

Don’t burst full load of crackers, but nothing wrong in bursting a few small ones.
These orders will create jobs and opportunities in massive numbers. Each aircraft would need 10 pilots and 16-18 cabin crew. Then there are Technicians, commercial, security, catering staff etc etc which would add up to pretty big numbers.

Local manufacturing is unlikely for big commercial jets. They do set up MRO facilities though. Don’t know the reason.
China has bought even bigger numbers but hasn’t got any manufacturing done locally. It’s only MRO for them too.
