New Delhi: India's top leadership will visit Russia this year with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to pay two visits to the country and President Pranab Mukherjee to travel to Moscow in May.

While Modi will be visiting Russia in July for BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) Summit, he is again scheduled to travel to Moscow for annual bilateral Summit towards end of the year.

Mukherjee will be visiting to take part in Russian Victory Day celebrations on May 9.

Apart from Mukherjee and Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will also visit Russia to co-chair inter-governmental Commissions with Russian counterparts on key strategic issues of bilateral, regional and international importance.

These visits will provide opportunity for high-level interactions between Indian and Russian leaders at least five times in six months starting from May.

Hope something happens with fgfa

FGFA and IRTA have become very very important for India. I hope India goes for something in the line of S-500/S-600 in line of Brahmos. MRSAM with is nowhere in sight.

First let's wait and see what happens when you he visits Paris . Only then we will know how important this Russia trip will be . Don't forget we are in talks with Russia for SU35S for 2 years now . More over we might end up using Rafale , SU35S , pakfa FGFA to replace Migs , mirage , jags .

If Rafale deal is dropped then this trip will be very interesting indeed .

TASS: World - Indian president to attend V-Day celebrations in Moscow

March 22, 15:18 UTC+3
26 heads of state have already confirmed they will attend the celebrations in Moscow of the 70th anniversary of the victory, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on March 17
NEW DELHI, March 22. /TASS/. India’s President Pranab Mukherjee will participate in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Victory Day in Moscow, India’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

"India’s President Pranab Mukherjee accepted the invitation of the Russian leader to attend the celebrations of the Victory Day in Moscow," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Twenty six heads of state have already confirmed they will attend the celebrations in Moscow of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on March 17.

"Invitations were sent to 68 heads of state, as well as UN, Council of Europe, UNESCO and EU chiefs," he said. "As of yesterday [March 16], 26 heads of state confirmed their participation."

Lavrov told a meeting of the Victory organizing committee that among them are the Chinese, Indian, South African, Vietnamese, North Korean and Czech leaders, as well as heads of UNESCO and the Council of Europe.

Lavrov said "steps made by the Americans and the aggresive core of the European Union" affected the participation of European delegations in the Victory anniversary events.

He said many people in Europe understood that the Moscow celebrations would be held not only to commemorate Europe's defenders from Nazism but "to revitalise the situation on the continent."

"We are expecting the Czech president, the head of the Slovak government, the Greek prime minister, the preisdent of Cyprus," Lavrov said.

The leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Norway have confirmed their participation in various formats, he added.

According to the minister, the decision of German Chancellor Angela Merkel to visit Moscow during the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Victory has special importance. "The parameters of her participation in these events are being specified," said Lavrov.

He said that 28 heads of state attended the celebrations of the 65th anniversary of the Victory in 2010.

Indigenously developed ‘Akash’ surface-to air missile system is there which is developed jointly by DRDO and BEL.

Akash, the surface-to-air missile system, can target an aerial object or aircraft upto 30 kilometres at an altitude of 18,000 metres. Though the Air Force version of this missile system has already been inducted, the Army’s version of Akash supersonic missile will be capable of flying at more than twice the speed of sound, according to defence officials. The heart of the Akash is the ‘Rohini’ radar that can detect an aircraft 120 km away. And this mobile missile system will be mounted on Tatra vehicles to provide a higher degree of speed and mobility.
“Akash air defence system is fully autonomous with capability to handle multiple aerial targets including very low flying ones,” said an official.

Lol, please let's not delude ourselves. Comparing the Akash to the S-300 is embarassing let alone the next generation S-500!

Akash is a very good start but it isn't anywhere near world-beating.
