INDIA'S TOP 10 FRIENDS

“Nations have no permanent friends or allies, they only have permanent interests.”
-Lord Palmerston

India needs to (and is) befriending every nation on the globe that can be of use to India in some way. India is, for some reason, very good in this arena- they friendly relations with most of the world and even paradoxical relationships (one of the few nations with good relations with Israel AND the Arab world). India should boost the size and scope of its diplomatic corps (I have heard the foreign ministry is only about 1/20th the size of the US's State Dept in terms of manpower) but things are certainly looking good for India on this front....

In this regard, it is an example of India's use of her own Soft Power. Afterall, Hard Power cannot be all too effective if we take into consideration of the former USSR's strategy during its existence. India has much potential in this regard.

Agreed, I've heard many analysts say India's soft power is second, perhaps, only to the US's.

India needs to start capitalising on such advantages it has now....

India has the influence capability that China wishes it had in its arsenal. Imagine, dear, India is able to balance a "warm" relationship with the United States, Japan, Russia, European Union, People's Republic of China, ASEAN, Middle Eastern Nations, Latin America. All due to her historically successful non-alignment policy.

Let's translate this in the ground , and I'll use the Indian Navy as a case basis;

This Summer the IN was able to take part in RIMPAC 2014 with the United States in Hawaii, then in July the IN held naval exercises with the Russian Pacific Fleet , then after a week, the same ships of the IN took part in Exercise Malabar 2014 with both the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force and the United States Navy in the Sea of Japan -- conducting Anti Submarine Warfare exercises as well as Fleet Screen Operations.

One word describes this capability and execution: W O W !

Translate the one for Japan for me. I'm not fluent in Hindi.

Chalte chalte ...
All these Hindi names are Bollywood movies actually. The one for Japan is dedicated for love based movie. Moral of the movie in the context of India and Japan is that good relationship evolves slowly slowly over period of time. kuch kuch hota hai means something something happens in melody tone. regards.

Yes. US have approximately 20,000 foreign service staff and India have approximately 800 foreign service staff.

Pakistan is India's best friend.
It's possible if Pakistan prevents using terror against India as an instrument of state policy and stops treating terror groups as 'strategic assets'. :P

Pakistan is India's best friend.
india pakistan relation will surely improve as economic disparity between india and pakistan grows....when india achieve 4 trillion mark by then it will be nearly imposible for pakistan to maintain hostile relation with india.

in my opinion by next decade India will find itself very close to Japan , China, Russia and some east Asian countries.
relation between India and west will be good but not strategically as important as with japan, china and Russia.
