Iran on Wednesday said a deadline for India to decide over investing in a key project to develop its southeastern Chabahar port is way over and New Delhi has not yet informed Tehran about its final decision.

Mohammad Saeed-Nejad, the managing director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), has told the media in Tehran that India had in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran pledged to announce whether it will commit $85 million in Chabahar within six months.

“I think the [grace] period [for India] is over,” said Saeed-Nejad. “However, the related contract with the Indian side has not been drafted as of yet,” he told Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

The official emphasized that India will not be involved in any construction activity in Chabahar, adding that it was only to provide dock equipment at the key port.

India’s media reported earlier that New Delhi will take a decision on Iran's latest offer in October after obtaining reports from other ministries including petroleum, chemical and fertilizer, and steel.

Chabahar is the closest and best access point of Iran to the Indian Ocean and Iran has devised serious plans to turn into a transit hub for immediate access to markets in the northern part of the Indian Ocean and Central Asia.

Iranian officials said in early October that China is also looking into the prospects of investing in the project. However, PMO chief Saeed-Nejad told Tasnim news agency that no serious negotiation to that effect has ever been held between Tehran and Beijing.

What is the possibility of it being a deliberate attempt, perhaps because they want chinese investment in chabahar and linking it further to CPEC/GWADAR?

We should bolster ties with Iran and Make Gwadar and Chabahar into a unified system of Shipping Trade that benefits both Nation. Or get Iran involved in Gwadar they have something to gain and absolutely nothing to loose!

Iran offers India a bigger role in Chabahar port: Report | The Indian Express

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has asked India to invest in infrastructure projects worth $8 billion, including an expanded role in developing a strategic port that will open up access to Central Asia, Iran’s envoy to New Delhi said on Friday. The port of Chabahar in southeast Iran is central to India’s efforts to circumvent arch-rival Pakistan and open up a route to landlocked Afghanistan where it has developed close security ties and economic interests. Rouhani suggested the larger role for India during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of a summit in Russia days before the historic nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, Iran’s ambassador to India told Reuters. - See more at: Iran offers India a bigger role in Chabahar port: Report | The Indian Express

PressTV is pretty much a Iranian government mouth piece, if they're saying this, then India needs to start doing something to offset the damage that has been dealt.

There is a difference between an offer and acceptance of that offer. The truth is that India has faltered in it's committing to Chahbahar port, and Iran may now be sending a final chance to India either invest or let someone else invest.

Ghareeb ko Ghareebi main hi sochna chahiye

Warna ye haal hoga tumhara.

Anyway, this can even be made reverse but one thing for sure is that Iran can invite china into Chabahar and they don't need the investment as much does india.

india should have saved its resources it spent on targeting Pakistan and today India would have more or less completed the Chabahar. To Bad India is wet dreaming.

Expressing its willingness for enhanced bilateral security and economic cooperation with Pakistan, Iran has dismissed suggestions that it is developing the Chabahar port to undermine the Gwadar deep seaport in Balochistan.

“There has been a talk that Chabahar and Gwadar ports will compete with each other. This is not true. Iran considers this as a matter of cooperation not competition,” said a top Iranian security official at a joint news conference with Prime Minister’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Wednesday.
