i was just reading a report on indian missiles and i came across something rather intriguing. A report claimed that a INDIAN sea launched ballistic missile will become operational in late 2010 and early 2011. has anyone else heard about this missile. what information do we know about this missile.

here is a short clip of that report

Indian Nuclear Forces
Two short-range sea-based ballistic missiles are under development: Dhanush and Sagarika. [We can] safely estimate that the Sagarika will become operational sometime after
2010
.

.
whats so secret about this... it might get IOC after 2010 but it wont be deployed until Arihant becomes fully operational.

.
It has been tested many times and has been successful every time this missile will be integrated with the Arihant subs

.
is there any pic available? is it a new design or a copy of russian sub launched missile? do we know the range or other stats?

. .
do you have a picture of that missile???[the one that you claim]

.
This one is ready to test fire in the 'platform', which is not ready..

.
Well the most secret missile of them is the K-X, B-05, AK-3 and right now I dont know what designation is used right now. This is one of the most secret missiles that is being constructed and designed right now. This is going inside the second line of the SSBN whose first hull has almost completed construction and the second hull is also being constructed.

Nothing is know about the characteristic of this missile..and the navy is tight lipped about it.

And Arihant is going to join the western fleet it seems.

Sagarika or Oceanic Series of SLBM have two variants
01. K15 Balistic missile with 750 Km Range with 1000 Kg Payload and 1900 Km range with 200 Kg payload . This missile has been successfully tested 8 Times and is ready for integration with Arihant class , each of which will carry 12 of these missiles. u guys might see some test launch of this missile from arihant before its commission in Jan 2012

02. K4 balistic Missile , Now this missile is still under development , was first tested in Jan 2010 . The missile is considered to be sea launched version of Agni 3 Balistic missile which became operational in 2010 . Missile has a range of 3500-4500 Km depending upon the payload , Last 2 of the 4 Arihant Class SSBN will carry 8 of these Missiles each , Becoz these subs would be slightly larger than first 2 of Arihant class at 7000 Ton

03. K5 Ballistic Missile , this is the Submarine launched version of Agni 5 Ballistic missile , It will have a Range of 6000 Km with a 2000 Kg payload , it will also have 4 Multiple Independent Re entry Vehicle to confuse BMD system . First test of this missile will happen in September 2011

As far as Dhanush is concerned , well it is a short range Balistic Missile which is already in service with the Indian Navy . This missile has a range of 350 Km and Payload of 500 Kg Becoz of its short range , this missile will mainly be used for Conventional strike on enemy Naval and Port installations as well as bases near the coast . The Missile has a secondary role as a nuclear delivery system in case of emergency , a role which it shares with the Kilo Class Submarine whose Klub S Cruise Missiles could be modified for nuclear delivery at time of crises
Dhanush Class Ballistic Missile is operated by Rajput Class Destroyers and Sukanya class Missile boats

It has only been tested from submerged pontoon?Has it been ever tested from any submarine platform?

NO.

It has to go long before it has been successfully tested from sub repeatedly.

So next logic will be..

Ok it has been tested from a submarine now. Has it ever been tested on an actual war scenario ?

NO

It has to go long before it has been successfully tested to another nation repeatedly.

Well war is the ultimate test for any weapon isnt it?If not there would ve been kargil war and siachin occupation IA/IAF would have never known about their weapons' deficiencies.
