In future if Pakistan would like to replace F-16 i am 100% sure first choice will be F-35.

point is when PAF will already be getting J31s from 2025 onwards why would they go for F35 ?
PAF is not getting any stealth fighter for sure till 2025, we have no contract either with China or USA lets see what happen.

. .
The "IF" scenario is not logical at all.. I believe in a different section this topic has widely been discussed. Perhaps writer Dave majumdar woke up late to write his views..

Technically, PAF will not like to buy any fighter which gets into a mess due to any small issue.. A classic example is F16s.. Thats the main reason they looked at CHina and got due support as China does not do a sanction or witholding of sales type action. So in all probability PAF will avoid a 5G bird from USA. Their first Choice would be a 5th Gen bird from China and second may be what homegrown project Turkey has..

Any other choice would lead to lots of permutation and combination..

But then again good if PAF gets F35.. At least such a scenario will force Indian IAF and MOD to wake up and do some serious modernization as we are too much "lazy" types and are laggards in modernization drive.

Pakistan wants to buy Lockheed Martin’s stealthy fifth-generation F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. But the South Asian nation’s chances of acquiring the new American-built warplane are fairly remote. Not only would export of the F-35 to Islamabad compromise the stealth fighter’s technology to Beijing, it could also destabilize the security balance in the region.

While Pakistan is focused on modernizing its air force with the Chinese-developed JF-17 Thunder, it is considering three possible options to acquire fifth-generation fighters. According to Islamabad’s chief of the air staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, who spoke to the Pakistani daily The News, the country has started negotiations with the United States to acquire the stealthy single-engine F-35.

While the F-35 is often derided for its myriad technical glitches, schedule delays, massive cost overruns and astronomical price tag, the jet incorporates some of the most advanced military technology ever developed by the United States. The aircraft’s radar and electronic warfare systems are extremely capable—and the Pentagon is not willing to compromise those systems.

Moreover, the nuclear-capable F-35 could potentially tip the balance of power on the Indian subcontinent. With its stealthy airframe, the F-35 could deliver a nuclear payload into to neighboring India with little to no warning—which could further destabilize an already tense relationship between the two powers. Indeed, the F-35/nuclear bomb combination has been criticized by arms control experts like Hans Kristensen, director of the Nuclear Information Project at the Federation of American Scientists. Moreover, the F-35 is not likely to be cleared for export to America’s allies in the Persian Gulf because of the Israeli security concerns.

Realistically, Pakistan’s best bet at acquiring a fifth-generation stealth fighter is probably either the Chinese J-31 or the J-20. However, the Russian Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA might also be a possibility is Moscow were willing to alienate its Indian allies. The Russians have been discussing a Su-35 sale to Islamabad, so it is not out of the question. But Pakistan’s chances of buying the F-35 are fairly close to nil.

it's something thats very rare. if pakistan is playing smart they would buy f16's and be offered f35's to supplement them. but its very slim.
however that does not mean they can't give them another 5th gen fighter. the kfx if being developed jointly by south korea, Indonesia and Lockheed they could offer them the kfx instead.

Lockheed's relationship with pakistan go back to the starfighter era. it would be a shame to lose a good customer. and a gain for someone else

@Blue Marlin where have you been buddy? You have a point there my friend but the case is assuming Pakistan would be interested in procuring the KFX, it will come with terms and conditions since LM is a US Company. Considering Pakistan's cozy relationship with China, it will be a long shot but everything is possible. In my opinion, the best shot of Pakistan getting a Stealth Fighter will be from China. But then again, that's just me. See you around buddy!

i have been busy.
i am just giving an alternative of how lm would provide a 5th gen fighter to pakistan.
but yes, pakistan would mostly likely to be the launch customer of the j31.

Further F-16 sales are stalled to Pakistan but they will get F-35s? Cool story.

Anyway, the F-35 is a white elephant and easily countered by the advanced AD network of the IAF not to mention their FGFAs, Rafales and Super MKIs. If it was the F-22 that would be another story....

.
Subcontinent is not getting a force inducing number of 5th gen fighter until at least 2025.No need to get premature goosebumps a decade early by anyone.
