India's Most-Advanced Warship to Get the Missiles That Were Missing

Brilliant news.

As the Barak 8 goes into production, we need to start building or collaborating for a Naval SAM with a range of 150 kms+.
The Barak 8 though called LRSAM (for the Navy) is actually an MRSAM.
what is naval sam?....lol
we are already working on long rang sam but much higher range...........

A Longer ranged SAM with a range of 200-250 km is on the drawing board.
Saurav Jha's Blog : Interview with Dr Avinash Chander, DRDO Chief and Scientific Adviser to Defence Minister
He also confirmed that a new Long ranged SAM with a range of 200-250 km is on the drawing board, which is likely be a spin off our ABM technology .
Dr Avinash Chander Talks about NEW Missiles
we also need a very latest SRSAM aswell for all owr future and current platforms
yes a quick reaction short-range SAM of 10-20 km required..like barak 1 mica vl or maybe barak8 mini :p:,........kolkata DDG is highly under armed:(
We have a good SRSAM.

Barak is an SRSAM.
Barak is not SRSAM............its MRSAM.........
most probably in first refit, The Barak-8 is increased to 48, as the production stabilize in BDL, and AK-630 would be replaced by 64 Barak-1.
yes B8 should be increase ............kolkata is totally underarmed only 48 vls no sr-sam no lrsam only with mrsam it should aleast have 80+ vls considering its size....

any source for the bold part?.because ak-630 is always part of warship

Yes, finally.
Now all is needed are Nirbhay, Brahmos-2 and a long range SAM for an AEGIS type destroyer.

.
These are all old news.

We had ordered a new shipment of barak-1.

Did they arrive ? Start to arrive ?

Have we placed the order yet ?

.
can anyone say when our ship designers were making Kolkata DDG why they did not think of having say large number of MRSAMs/LRSAMs.
In a CBG how many such type of ships may be deployed like Kolkata DDG?

Some weeks ago an article was there in PDF about USN burke with quadpack MRSAMS amounting to 192. Why do we not envision something like that? DO we feel our existing Kolkata or follow on class is sufficient for their roles?

. .
Can someone please tell me what kind of joint venture is this?
Can India export this missile ?
Will India produce it on its own ?

.
INS kolkata has enough space to mount 64 barak-8 due to its compact size.
Also there are 8 empty cells along with brahmos,i'm guessing these are meant for nirbhay.

. . .
Even our carrier lacked this protection layer. Hopefully Carrier would be armed first.

Barak 8.......... music to my ears

but do we need 64 B8 ....or 32 B8 and 32 LRSAM with 250 KM+ and some SRQR-SAM as CLAWS ...kolkata is under armed with just 32 B8 MRSAM.............not enough for area defence

64 is quite alot, almost cruiser armament.Only 2 destroyers classes have greater than that -american aegis and japanese atago aegis.Even state of the art british daring has 48 aam cells.Kolkata has enough space for 64 barak-8s and CIWS can be replaced by barak-1s if necessary. However this will only be doen after mid life upgrades/refits etc.
P-15B bangalore class is sure to have much heavier load.Infact i suspcet follow on ships of P-15A kolkata class chennai and kochi might have bigger loads.

Since it's the longest India has, it's regarded as LRSAM. Indian press do not want its public that India only has point defense AAM.
