India's Modi Visits Japan to Deepen Defense and Commercial Ties

PLAN prefers to spank Japan first but PLA prefers to spank India first. What a dilemma for China to choose. Maybe this meeting will help us make a choice.

PRC already made a choice when your govt send your top officials just within one week after the swearing ceremoney.
They made a choice of peacefulness.

Indian PM Modi arrives in Japan for 5-day visit

TOKYO —
India’s new Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew into Japan Saturday on a five-day official visit as their governments seek to boost security ties and counter a increasingly assertive China.

Modi arrived at Kansai International Airport near Osaka by special plane for a night in the nearby ancient city of Kyoto where he had an unofficial dinner with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a foreign ministry official said.

The Indian leader will visit historic sites and an academic institution in Kyoto on Sunday before moving to Tokyo for meetings on Monday with Japanese government and business leaders, including a summit with Abe, the official said.

Abe and Modi are expected to affirm cooperation in ensuring a “peaceful and stable maritime order,” a Japanese official told Kyodo news agency.

Both nations hope to curb Beijing’s rising activity in the East and South China seas and the Indian Ocean.
In New Delhi, the Indian premier told Japanese media in an interview on Friday that the two nations could “upgrade” their relations in the fields of defense and security.

“I see in the recent changes in Japan’s defense export policies and regulations a possibility to engage in a new era of cooperation in high-end defense technology and equipment,” he said.

In the summit meeting, the two premiers are likely to agree on launching a “two-plus-two” security consultative framework involving their foreign and defense ministers, according to Kyodo.

Japan already has such arrangements with the United States, Australia, Russia and France.
Abe and Modi are also expected to discuss a possible Indian purchase of Japanese-made US-2 amphibian planes.
During Modi’s trip, his first bilateral visit outside South Asia since taking office in May, the two countries will seek to conclude talks for a civil nuclear pact that would allow Tokyo to export nuclear-related technology to New Delhi, Kyodo said.
On the economic front, Abe is expected to pitch Japan’s high-speed bullet train technology, Kyodo said.

It added that Abe and Modi were expected to agree to jointly produce rare earths that could be exported to Japan, a move that would further reduce Japan’s reliance on China for supply of such minerals.
Rare earths are vital to manufacture high-tech products such as hybrid cars and mobile phones.

I pray that both India and Japan can definitely be active partners for peace and stability. Japan has much to learn from India be in in the cultural, technological, as well as organizational level. And I think that Japanese Government must capitalize on this opportunity for us to have a better understanding of South Asian society and the inner workings.

Both of us have a lot to learn from each other.

After years of cultural degradation, we have weakened and lost our confidence. This is something that we need to re-learn from you Japanese. How you rose from the ashes and became the world's most advanced country, technologically as well as one of the most powerful militaries on earth.

Your dedication, unity and love for your motherland is something we really admire in Japan.

A civilizational contact of 1,400 years to be boosted even more!

Actually India can learn more from China than Japan. Despite all the media hype, Indians will probably feel more at home and welcome in China then in Japan. All those bowing and polite smiles hides something very sinister. Japanese people are very very conservative, traditional and protocol intensive. Its an Island culture. China on the other hand has been very open and has absorbs foreign culture even from India for thousands of years.
India and Japan are just totally incompatible. Japanese culture and Indian culture are also at opposite end of the spectrum.

Besides, I doubt India will buy the Japanese High Speed train or the Japanese flying boat. Both are not suitable for India. Many Indians also say so.

^ I disagree. China should have nothing to do with that third world country. Let Japan pretend to be respectful even while they look down on Indians and their social cultural habits.

OTH you did make me smile though
.
its actually very good that both countries are clear in there objectives through this cooperation, which in turn will make our relationship more fruitful ,while a certain neighbour will become more calm.
