It is pretty sad that I am liking your comment not because you are being sarcastic...

But because it is the truth in India. For NDTV/ Aaj Tak/ The Hindu etc., we are falling apart because 1 man was lynched in Dadri and some loose mouths gave some hate speeches.

Can't wait for November 8th when these Delhi based chutiya mediawallas are shown their aukaat by the poor/ village uneductaed youths in the heartland.... who are like this even after 60 years of our independence because our priority lies elsewhere than development.... This is the pseudo secularism practiced in India thanks to Nehru and his current chamchas..

Was talking to another poster on this, World media picks up issues reported in local media........ and you know what these idiots some how learnt that only negative news sells, the problem is they are over doing it......To add fuel to fire Current govt is kind of arrogant when it comes to media management....... World media only takes cue from Indian media. If Indian media keeps on reporting relentlessly that Modi's men attacked churches & burned Dalit house, world media is going to report that. But when these stories turnes out to be false...our media refrains from correcting the story, thereby eluding the reality to the world. It's for Modi & his administration to bell the cat once & for all..& bring this media under regulation & strict libel law! Sue couple of channels for millions & make couple of anchors taste jail food...you'll start seeing the change!

To a certain extent, yes it is self inflicted, but not completely, there are vested interests that conveniently act as house slaves, foreign agents for whatever reasons, it really is a full blown ecosystem that is very interconnected has both internal and external aspects, which is why it's a bit hard.

How many perpetrators against the Christian community in India have been brought to book? Commissions of inquiry are appointed but very little comes out of them. Action? Seldom! A true picture or a distorted, engineered report?

Sonia Falerio - India today, an evangelical going around as a neutral Journalist. Anna M Vetticad, - again regarded as a neutral Journo

Then the Islamist gang, Rana Ayyub - who is called upon to the BBC as an Indian POV person..., the other guy from I forget his name, tried to whitewash Aurangazeb's crimes...forget his name - works for Scroll, an Omidyar funded group/

This is one half, the other half is full of commies like the Hindu's N.Ram, and Malini, Siddharth Varadarajan of the wire (formerly the Hindu) and so on. This is basically the landscape of the so called credible bit of the Indian english media.

Some random NGO that receives funds from another NGO (which in turn receives money from another...etc leading to an outside source). Approached the court to ban the use of Animals in South Indian temples. At the same time a big hit job was done in the UK media about the same, this was then referred to multiple times by our own local media and made big news on TV.

This is how local media is used by external interests to cause internal changes. You can think about elections yourself.

The three-tiered program will bring U.S. experts to speak and work with editors, advertising managers, mid-career journalists, and journalism school curriculum developers. The awardee will work together with Indian journalism school sub-awardees in Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. One significant purpose of this grant is to strengthen the connections between American and Indian journalism schools and journalists. At the end of the program, U.S. and Indian journalists and journalism professors will work together on a white paper of recommendations on how to improve India’s ranking on the World Press Freedom Index.

The first tier of the training program will bring U.S. newspaper editors to work with their Indian counterparts about best practices, and common challenges. Local, vernacular papers would work with equivalent smaller city or town newspapers from the United States; whereas larger English dailies would work with editors from larger newspapers from the United States. Editors from U.S. papers would discuss larger issues of journalism ethics, as well ongoing career development for mid-career journalists. Editors from smaller U.S. papers would be charged with discussing how they cover international affairs and foreign policy in their local editions, and the role local papers have in educating the public about local, national, and international issues.

In order to improve standards and ethics within advertising departments, and improve the relationship between advertising managers and editorial staff, the second tier of this program would bring U.S. experts from leading news outlets to teach best practices in objectivity and how to maintain profitability. Management could work together on strategies on how to retain credibility when new media and citizen journalism is increasingly popular. Lastly, managers would discuss the best ways to recognize self-censorship to appease advertisers.

The people who brought you "Weapons of mass destruction" will tutor journalists on ethical discussions and prepare and promote agenda.

Given the landscape of the media it is going to be very hard to change this, esp short term. Any attempt to do so will also be classified as "stifling of media freedom" you know whats going to happen once that goes into the echo chamber. So he will have to tread softly, but I do agree that atleast something should be done to stem the tide of sheer false news. But to think that this is entirely self inflicted is incorrect, there are several elements who wanted a hung parliament, and the BJP win has caused immense pain.
