India's Future Main Battle Tank (FMBT)

there ia a taunt that pakistanies often make that see how arjun and LCA are so late and owr top brass in army and air force are to blame for that

thing is even most of projects like pinaka , arjun , lca , sukhoiMKI , vikrmaditya , advancedjet trainer were done or given the forward push by the last NDA goverment headed by ABV but 10 years of uber corruppt UPA rule destroyed all that momentum they even dragged the MRCA to its streches

point is what now

and both Modi and parikker have made it very clear zero tolrence to stupid gimmiks both by forces and by beurocracy + a push for complete TOT under make in india programm with active help of foriegn players and giving them there deu

just wait for a couple of years we just might see all of those so called undoable and unpraktikle projects bearing fruits we just needed will and strong leadership

yes there will be both Arjun MK3 and FMBT + make in india programms for the latest world has to offer ... im hopefull again

thats the thign, there is arjun mk1, army refused, in comes arjun mk2 which addresses serious shortcomings on an "in- developemnt" mk1, and then we have mk3 which sees improvements in mk2. The icing on the cakes is , none of them has won the trust of the primary user yet all are development. This development criteria is no where seen but in India. I can tell more stories but am yet to see a sensible comment.

There is a huge weakness in the development and induction process in India as the primary user is forced to change their requirements often to benefit politicians and bureaucrats, tehnos and what not. In the mean time, the induction process is severely hampered. This thread does not include space and missile programs so please refrain in indulging such topics.

To this date, there is no definite design and requirements for the FMBT, all we see here is a so called 3d model made by GOD knows whom with no basis. The way things are going right now, forget the FMBT even embracing the drawing board for a foreseeable time.

thing is top army brass and beurocracy have just one agenda and that is "kick backs" indian army or air force was never in favour of a home grown platform cause it will not be in there personal interests ... currptionmy friend corruption

and for that they killed promising platforms from very earli like marut fighter

they tried to do it with both LCA & Arjun but deu to there constant nagging and goal posts changing withowt giving active inputs in R&D of both from day one delayed both the projects

nowbut deu to this both arjun and LCA finalli are showing what there real calliber is we are late no dought but its always better to belate than never

for the cutting edge we are always open to buying the best platforms from the best wenders butwe will noty stop owr R&D and it will bear fruits in future if not now

so no matter whatowr enemies make of us we are not sitting idleand we will make the best

+ now modi and parikker are both way too strong and resilient for army and beurocracy to take them for a ride

just wait for couple of years and things willchange like they never did .. trust me

* they can make more money even in through domestic industry. Corruption is a global practice you know.

Arjun and LCA were not just late, they are below par in so many fornts it is not even funny. Even today, IA and IAF are nto happy with both products that are falling short of many required parameters.

* the foremost reason was the failure of the said products in meeting standard demands set by the user, nobody can blame them.

* modi and Parriker can do zilch when the industry is immature and incompetent. The only way is to bring a ground up reform by focusing on performance only goals and nothing else. If they fail, replace them with more competent people.
* Lastly, unbelievable delays and mishaps have become a norm in Indian military contracts, contractors screw them easily despite their so called strict check and balance. Russians are still laughing on over priced apfsds and HEAT rounds to be sold at 300% the original price. This is what happens when you have incompetent people in higher ranks a it is the nation that bears the price.

Right, so when you trash the whole Indian military industry, you wanna bring up lca, which is not a part of this topic, but not a project that has one nuclear boomer in sea trials, another about to launch, and another in advanced stages of construction? And their 2 SLBMs? Good one.

FMBT Design (not frozen, early concept)

I believe it will be based on T 90...........

BTW I would have liked if it has 14 wheels but considering 50 Ton limit, it is immpossible.

If there is no 50 ton restriction, FMBT should be like this

nope the chassis will be of arjun so it will not be based on T90 but improved design based on arjun , i do agree with the unmanned turret if they want to go with 2 crew design i think

I doubt this

India's T90s are using homemade smoothbore guns.

You mean produced under license, right?

OK got it

The T-90S’s domestic production at HVF after all has been a difficult process with the Russian OEM refusing to transfer technology for vital assemblies such as the gun system (including the barrel) and turret armour plates. For the first 175 T-90s produced at Avadi, the gun system had to be imported off the shelf from Russia.
However starting 2012, an indigenous 125 mm smooth bore gun developed by DRDO with a ‘modified chemistry barrel’ of the existing T-72 gun has gone into production having completed trials in 2010.This modified chemistry barrel has also successfully completed a life cycle test conducted at Armoured Corps Centre & School Ahmednagar

.
Avinash chander said that DRDO is convincing the for a 2 crew tank. He said that with plane cockpit like arrangement, tank can be controlled by 2 crew. It will become very compact then.

Well T 34 had 2 men crew earlier.

Really, how is LCA sub par?It satisfies all the requirements in the original ASR -and the next iteration is going to be much more capable.Even the Tejas mk1 has far more capabilities &it is much more advanced than someone's block 2 or proposed block 3.
Why did the Navy go for a carrier based version of LCA if it was obsolete ? You guys rant about Indian programs like the LCA, which is far more sophisticated than you guys could ever make when your pride, the JF-17 is nothing but a Chinese fighter developed for countries that cannot afford anything else

The IAF expects far more of its platforms than the PAF does. They were even unwilling to induct the IOC spec LCA.
And with mk1 in service,ADA is now developing the second iteration of Tejas series-the mk2 .Can Pakistan even dream of developing an AESA radar ?

Care to explain how arjun mk1is ''in- developemnt''?Arjun mk2 is the next iteration of arjun series, and mk1 is no longer in production (and is in service).

Yes at least our guys don't think they can make everything on there own when they fail they simply try to get them from other countries

So what you are saying is Pakistan is incapable of developing anything and you want Indians to be the same

Indian military industrial complex, your ROFL of the day

Indian military industrial complex is the most advanced in the south Asia-having capabilities to develop its own aircrafts, warships and much more

We develop things many we have done but if we fail in few we take help not keep wasting time and money on our own

We wasted money in 1970s and in 1980s got missile which had 50 ton weight and 900 KM range.

Then in 1990s we got missile with 2000 KM arnge.

And now we have missile which has range of 5000 KM

Why are we fighting guys??..We have equipment that we are developing for our doctrine and we will improve it till it suits us.
OTOH you have equipment for your doctrine good for you guys!
Plus I think we are going off topic by bringing LCA, ships and all the other stuff!!...

yet they can't produce even usable tank ammunition.
