These are more of regional problems. India is huge country and it has its share of problems. For example you can see many cases of honour killings in Haryana in last few years, on the other hand, West Bengal hasn't witnessed a single case of honour killings in 2 centuries (thanks to various reform movements and social initiatives in the past).

Developing countries suffer from these things. Education is the key.

Lets not get into the north south thing , this needs to be addressed at a pan India level and severity of punishment needs to be increased to an extent that culprits Dont even dare to think of committing such heinous crime.
