The dams fever of Indian regime has gripped the region with suspicions, trust deficit and hostility as India has a history of water conflicts with Bangladesh and Nepal. Now the construction of controversial dams on rivers flowing into Pakistan has endangered the regional peace as Pakistan is an important regional player and any misunderstanding between the two nuclear capable neighbours can jeopardise the peace and development of the entire region.

There are two kinds of people in the world - those who do things and try to get ahead, and those who just lie back and do nothing, blame the other guy for getting ahead, ask for aid and make vague noises about how there is a threat to 'regional peace'. India, FYI, is also funding dams in Bhutan and Nepal - we'll be buying the power that gets generated. You are unable to get your act together and build dams, when someone else goes ahead and tries to do that, you make vague noises about 'regional peace being threatened'. Dog in the manger, it would seem. But oh, there is more.

There is another thread on this forum with exactly the same argument - except that in this case, it is India's space programme that's 'threatening regional peace'. Is there a parallel or am I seeing things?

Then again, there is a third thread, about people blaming the US for not 'selling' LNG to Pakistan at below market prices. All in all, the picture I get is of a people who are unwilling to do anything positive and just seem to want handouts from everyone. Incidentally, your power situation would have been a lot better if you had a few operational dams - and you wouldn't need to burn gas - which would have lead to better availability of scarce natural gas as well. But why bother doing all this when you can blame India for making dams and blame US for not giving free gas.

And here I was thinking IWT was the most successful watersharing endeavours in the world today. Most of the water is allowed to flow into Pakistan.

OnTopic: Instead of blaming others of over-progress, one should competitive enough and progress together. No one asked you not to work hard and accomplish your goals. Donn blame others for your incompetency.

India resorted to using water as a weapon of war against Pakistan in the very first few months after our independence. Choking Pakistani water was one of the first weapons used by India against a weak, newly-born Pakistani state. It is part of a long list of 'firsts' that India introduced into its relationship with Pakistan. Some of these 'firsts' include the use of non-state actors [started in 1950 by India through lawless Afghan regions to stoke separatism in western Pakistani provinces] and nuclear weapons [1974 nuclear detonations]. In another first, India launched an unprovoked invasion across international borders in 1965 & 71 to seize territory. It was later followed by the occupation of Siachen during 1984. These days, India is busy introducing nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers in Pakistani seas.

In short India has left no stone unturned to transform a simple international dispute with a neighbour over Kashmir into a multifaceted conflict and a running blood feud.

But far from a policy of fair use, India is dotting the Kashmiri landscape with large and small dams that exceed its need and requirement. This massive dam buildup ignores the fact that it is happening on a disputed territory that remains on the UN Security Council agenda awaiting resolution. The Indian dam buildup is like creating a large valve that can be turned off any time to punish Pakistan, or to thirst it to death or surrender.

Come on Man do not whine. All the disputes were taken to International court by Pakistan. What ever the judgement is there was honored by India.

Bania nothing has been done yet, we take water issue very seriously. Bharat mata can build dams on indus, though only few with combined capacity of not more then 3000mw. But it can not divert the water. Very simple to understand, otherwise Pakistan pita will take care of bharat mata.
