India's Covid Crisis: Narendra Modi Seems to Have No Plan

With potentially hundreds of millions of rural Indians getting sick, I wonder if crop output will fail. Is there a famine coming to India?

The mortality rate of 1.68% is likely for the cities and those hospitalized. Those dying at home are not counted. Rural India is not equipped to deal with this, so the mortality rate will be much higher. 40 million will die in silence, and nobody will care. That's India.

You are probably closer to the truth then anyone would want to admit. The collapse of the public health system of any country should be something the UN plans on preventing. Even the largest or most economically robust nations can be overwhelmed, and there should be a plan to put aside ego, so that lives can be saved, as was done with the Ebola crisis in west Africa a few years ago.

I hope your right and this is the end of the second wave in India. Frankly, with underreporting potentially being multiples of the official data, we may never know if this pandemic is “contained”. With the risk of starvation outweighing contracting COVID, the governments especially in the rural areas will see it prudent to open up as soon as official numbers suggest an end to the second wave. Average Indians should exercise caution as much as possible and be trained in decontamination techniques as well as maintaining the COVID SOPs (masks, hand washing, social distancing) at the end of a trip outside the home. It’s tedious work, but could be a way the average Indian could maintain a job and protect themselves and others around themselves.

First of, that’s a really nice objective post.
I think the UN is still a token org, more focused on providing guidance across the healthcare value chain - from research to delivery. They are massively underfunded and stigmatised to drive anything. Hope the pandemic’s aftermath does to the UN health what World War II did to the League of Nations.

unless the government is gonna give away food to everyone everyday, daily wage earners are going to have to work to earn the money to buy food.
