India’s bullet train on the slow track

Indians should embrace HSR since it is actually very suitable for a country the size of India.

The distances involved between a lot of major cities would mean that the journey can be covered in 1-5 hours. This would mean that train travel would mainly be faster than using planes.

This route would take till 2025 to be ready and then the GDP/ capita of India would have maybe have doubled. With the fact that it would link the financial capital of India(Mumbai) with the largest city in booming Gujarat( Ahmedabad) then there would be enough paying passengers to make the route economically viable.
In fact, we have already cases like, the big size as China, medium size like Germany and France, very long and narrow country like Japan, small network like SK and Taiwan. There are different strategies, average speed, distance of stations, prices, etc. Even in China, we have different strategies for long-distance trunk routes(300kph), medium-distance regional key routes(250-300kph) and intercity HSR in city agglomerations(150-200kph). It simply works.

Exactly. When Wuhan-Guangzhou HSR (the first long-distance 300-350kph HSR in China) began operation in 2009, at that time, people generally felt it expensive. But now, old trains are empty(still some old overnight trains for the poor), airplanes are empty. The number of trains increases from less than 20 daily to 60-70 pairs daily, in some sections 100 pairs daily. Market works, some people shouldn't fool the society out of their own interests.(airplane lobbyist, bus company lobbyist, radical environmentalists, etc)

photos I took on some normal weekdays
Pls mind the frequency of Beijing-Wuhan-Guangzhou HSR in Wuhan Railway Station(my city).

A lot of anti-development people tend to magnify some small drawbacks but never mention the huge positive impacts on society.
Those cities in China once against HSR are now like weepers and victims, trying everything to get an HSR station in the coming 13th five-year-plan of China. Losers are forever losers, they have a reason.
@AugenBlick If u are interested in HSR development in China, you can check my thread chinese-hsr-news-and-information: original-translations
I think some people are just afraid of change ... maybe have low confidence.
IDK how long they want india to be a developing country ... we should get it over with in a few generations.

See even you , being a foreigner can understand all this.
Most Indians can't .... When this train is ready , it will link India's export center (Gujrat capturing 25%exports) to Indias financial center Mumbai.

Yes. Only Indians can hold back India from greatness. And many Indians even under Modi is doing that.

And those people are easily fooled by irresponsible media and lobbyists from airplanes.
Chinese media were generally very skepitcal towards HSR years ago. And they sometimes deliberately posted a photo of a 6am or 10pm train to prove nobody took HSR.(6am train, lol). Sometimes they exaggerated a train being late but didn't tell readers bullet trains are 99% on time.

Thats the difference between doers and commentators bro.
See In India , everybody used to say we cannot guarantee 24x7x365 power because we are poor country. Modi did it without subsidies and with the distribution company earning a profit. Most states cannot provide 24x7x365.

And for politics , every one used to say his state was not really as good as he says... well I don't see any other state with 99.99% electricity uptime.

Politicians should take the responsibility first and expose truth to the public. I admit ordinary people are easily fooled, but it's not their fault.

When Deng Xiaoping was free from forced labour work in the countryside and took Shinkansen during his visit to Japan in the late 1970s after disastrous cultural revolution, Chinese were totally shocked. And during my visit to Shanghai in 2008 when I experienced HSR(at that time only bullet trains on 200-250kph upgraded old lines), I was simply shocked and very disappointed that we didn't have that in Wuhan.

My advise is to send those irresponsible politicians who use populism to interfere with development to other countries with HSR. I think Modi must have learned a lot during his several visits to Canton when he was the governor of Gujarat. Have more time in real experiences, not like some Indian politicians in China spending most time shopping in malls in the name of official visit. (I have personally guided some Indian delegations to my school).

Agreed.
Most people have a mental view of things...they live in their own small bubble.... They usually think of a policy and then suddenly they say "oh we are too poor"...well lol if you think you are poor you always will be poor.
Thats why modi is so popular....he is not like other politicians.

My city Wuhan is not as rich as Shanghai or Shenzhen, but we currently have 5000 construction sites, build five metro lines in the same time, redevelop filthy slums and redesign outdated city road network. And BBC intentionally made a sour grape documentary about Wuhan and deliberately trolled with the mayor in an interview. So what?! One politician should be strong enough even he couldn't win support from the public as long as he does the right thing in the long run.

.
Yes you are correct at present we don't need any bullet or missile trains.

May be, but we will definitely need it in future.

So we have to start working on it, today.

Never mind documentary made by BBC retards....Their B**t hurts when they compare their economy with yours.
just chill:cheers:
But whats is HSR??
Your bullet trains are pretty nice:enjoy:

.
HSR wont be coming to India in the next 20 yrs at least, land acquisition across various states will take ages. And let these these feasilibilty studies fool you, they were done even in 2011

High-speed railway. The definition varies. One definition from World Bank is at least 250kph passenger-dedicate lines or at least 200kph upgraded old lines. Under this definition, China has 16,000km HSR by the end of 2014 and estimated 20,000 km by 2015. But I think in developing countries, upgraded old lines above 160kph(constant 160kph, not just some small section) can be also called HSR or at least semi-HSR. And EMU(electric multiple units) trains are used on these lines, the power of EMU is separated into different cars as opposed to centered into locomotives. EMUs are easy to be speeded up and down like subways but need special signal system and seamless tracks(in most cases).

It's about saving time for those who need it. In India, You can still have slower trains, since the high speed ones can't run on the existing infrastructure

There is already a plan to increase maximum allowable speed on IR from 130/110 kmph to 200/160 kmph- dubbed semi high speed rail by Indian media. The much touted 'Gatimaan express' is just a beginning.

Also the introduction of tilting trains - may be a Talgo or Pendolino might allow even higher speeds

anyway, and then new high speed railways has to be electric. No diesels.

There is nothing that restricts use of diesel trainsets on high speed rail-trains like intercity 125 or Talgo XXI can reach speeds beyond 200 kmph.Such a diesel electric multiple unit is being developed in India.

But i am not sure if it would be Ahmadabad-Mumbai link.....that is more to do with Modi's personal choice of his home state.

The final plan is a Pune-Mumbai-Ahmadabad HSR .Pune is already an auromotive/IT/financial services hub and a new financial hub is being built at Ahmadabad to supplement Mumbai. So the choice of Pune-Mumbai-Ahmadabad is logical

They should start a Delhi-Mumbai high speed link and see how that goes, since your most affluent passengers willing to travel will come from there.

Delhi Mumbai route is too long. They are planning to upgrade the existing infrastructure to allow commercial operations at 200 kmph.

When talking about high speed, we are usually talking about 300kmph+....like the new British HSR 2 or French TGV.
