In fact, we have already cases like, the big size as China, medium size like Germany and France, very long and narrow country like Japan, small network like SK and Taiwan. There are different strategies, average speed, distance of stations, prices, etc. Even in China, we have different strategies for long-distance trunk routes(300kph), medium-distance regional key routes(250-300kph) and intercity HSR in city agglomerations(150-200kph). It simply works.Indians should embrace HSR since it is actually very suitable for a country the size of India.
The distances involved between a lot of major cities would mean that the journey can be covered in 1-5 hours. This would mean that train travel would mainly be faster than using planes.
This route would take till 2025 to be ready and then the GDP/ capita of India would have maybe have doubled. With the fact that it would link the financial capital of India(Mumbai) with the largest city in booming Gujarat( Ahmedabad) then there would be enough paying passengers to make the route economically viable.
Exactly. When Wuhan-Guangzhou HSR (the first long-distance 300-350kph HSR in China) began operation in 2009, at that time, people generally felt it expensive. But now, old trains are empty(still some old overnight trains for the poor), airplanes are empty. The number of trains increases from less than 20 daily to 60-70 pairs daily, in some sections 100 pairs daily. Market works, some people shouldn't fool the society out of their own interests.(airplane lobbyist, bus company lobbyist, radical environmentalists, etc)This route would take till 2025 to be ready and then the GDP/ capita of India would have maybe have doubled. photos I took on some normal weekdays
Pls mind the frequency of Beijing-Wuhan-Guangzhou HSR in Wuhan Railway Station(my city).
Waiting room, every platform has a separate waiting space.
Passengers wait at an exact position drawn on the platform, just facing the doors of their compartments.
Platforms of a typical HSR station of provincial capitals
10% allowed standing tickets
Even second class, very comfortable
