Indians' dreams dashed by Australian immigration changes - BBC News

Not really. There isn't a strong IT sector in Canada . plus Canada is strict when it comes to education. We don't take Indian university grads as equivalent. We don't accept Indian experience. We are accepting people with money, not skills as much. Indian PhD is equivalent to our highschool grad. No offense to Indians
i was talking in reference to a "western heaven" as for education, i dont so much about it. but we do habe a good amount of indian and pakistani doctors here.

What are the views of Indians on this? Mine were mixed in the sense that I felt sorry for them after all the work they had done trying to get to AUS, but then you are throwing yourselves at the Aussies and hoping for the best.
The changes that have come in have also happened in NZ, and stem from the fear of skilled labour which brings about large numbers of migrants to settle there.

They make no excuse for it either by calling it the "Australia first" policy.

I think the silver lining in this is that India will benefit far more from having its best brains stay. Pakistan had suffered years of this until the giving of a visa to a Pakistani national became fraught with difficulties.

Waz bahi,

I myself hold an Aus PR, the skilled PR visa 189 is still open for anyone with necessary score in IELTS, experience, degrees. CSOL still has occupations like Software Engineer etc etc etc where Indians go in bulk. 457 Visa was repealed, which is good because it makes people either commit to Australia with a PR or look for another country. Australians are sending a simple message, either commit to our country and take a bigger plunge or stay away.

What will stop are those who are either in lower skill professions like 'Cook' etc which were once in CSOL but removed or those who want to spend few years in Australia and then decide for PR.

Meanwhile, Canada is on a hunt for global talent and will open a fast (2 weeks fast) stream for temporary visa called Global Talent Stream Visa.

What the heck are you talking about? Ever heard of Gaming industry in Montreal? Canada has a sizeable IT industry. Surely, US has bigger one but that does not make Canadian IT industry any smaller.

Meanwhile, FYI, Canada INDEED accepts Indian degrees as equivalent for Visa and immigration purpose. They have to go through a check by WES for establishing equivalency and most pass through quite easily. Same happens in Australia, via a different NGO.

Also, Canada INDEED considers Indian work experience for awarding points under Express Entry.

Lastly, CIC is opening up a new Canadian temporary visa stream which will award work visa in just 2 weeks, AND it is going to include IT jobs.

As far as securing a job in Canada goes, I believe it depends on the individual themselves.

I wonder how come some Chinese like @Jlaw on this forum are so unaware of situation in their OWN country of residence? Are they ignorant by birth or something happened afterwards?
No offense to Chinese BTW.

All my points are verifiable independently from cic.gov.ca. You don't need to believe me. Unlike your statement which requires one to believe that you are indeed from Canada and not from some slum in Gongdung and your statements can be taken at their face value.

Oh, btw, few of the cleaning staff in Washington University were former grad students of Tsinghua University.

Don't be so emotional boy. Givernmenof Canada doesn't own private. Companies. Your indian education isn't worth anything. You will need to go through the university again. They may give you a few courses as credits. :enjoy:

Heh, you college degree can only get you your first job, after that you need to excel your next job based on your experience and skill-set. A number of folks who move out of India move via Internal Company Transfer channel so they land up in the country with a job to begin with. After that, it is business as usual, you network and you move.

A brief search on linkedin for folks located in Canada and studied in for example Delhi University or Punjab University shows that you are not quite right. A number of them are having degrees only from their Indian Alma matar.

That said, I do agree with one thing. Certain profession will be regulated in Canada or Australia for that matter and will require you to get membership of those professional societies which may need you to pass few tests and get your degrees verified.

Here are few examples
