Indian troops killed in Kashmir

Sorry Tang0, but neither side is willing to concede a point.

We are all bound (including myself), by our nationalistic sentiments.

In India's defence, India's human rights record has improved a great deal since 1989 and the army has taken several steps to minimise the excesses.

India has also conducted free and fair elections since 2002, which have been acknowledged by the UN. Infact, the Chief Election Commissioner of India won the Magsaysay award for his efforts.

On the other hand, Pakistan has continued to support Jehadi groups, which employ far, far worse tactics than any army and has thus has no moral standing to call out India on the issue.

Terrorism in the valley has nevertheless reduced in recent years due to international pressure on Pakistan to turn off the jehadi taps, as well as the crackdown on fundamentalism in Pakistan itself.
Taking advantage of this, the Indian government has begun massive modernization programs to improve infrastructure, education, and employment.

Stealth Assassin: Good on India then...

Is there any negotiation or process in place to have the populace vote on joining one nation or the other? Perhaps to set up the zone as some type of temporarily independent UN mandate? Fact please, not conjecture. Try to maintain a civilized discourse for the good of the forum.

The original UN declaration was to conduct a vote across the entire Kashmir region.

Things have changed a great deal since then, with China occupying a big chunk, and the other chunks with India and Pakistan respectively.

Naturally, it is not possible to implement the same resolution today.

There is no negotiation or process in place to hold a vote in kashmir as of today.

So somone, please enlighten me on the current Kashmir situation. Any links to useful (Objective) articles? Perhaps a thread on the subject? Also why did a "plebiscite to ascertain the wishes of the people" never occur?

One thread that was started:

http://www.defence.pk/forums/strate...tions.html?highlight=un+resolutions+explained

As far as objective discussions, pretty hard between Indians and Pakistanis.

There are some other discussions as well, I'll see if I can find them.

Kashmir was never part of India. Muster some courage atleast to accept that India occupied it and still doing so and still killing innocent Kashmiris.
Shamful it is.

Jammu & Kashmir was & is as much a part of India as any other state. Where is the question of occupying it ? Hari Singh signed the accession papers as did rulers of over 500 princely states which now form India. We can endlessly debate on the authenticity of the instrument of accession or how someone duped somebody with no results..in any property dispute possession they say is nine tenth of the law.

If India had to occupy J&K it would have done it sooner that after it was attacked..there would have been no "other side" at all. There is absolutely nothing shameful at all.

Now that we have digressed form the thread it would be prudent to state that there is no way that the ground situation is going to change as far as the LC is concerned. The earlier we all reconcile ourselves to this & move on the better for us all.

Lastly, could we stick to the thread please ?

It is true that Kashmir was not originally a part of India.

Pakistan was however!

One of the most amusing request is that one has to muster courage to deny the truth!

It is shameful that one associates with terrorists to achieve one's unfinished dreams!!

Frivolous posts will beget frivolous answers!
