Two contrasting videos that went viral last week sharply frame the conflict in J&K today. In the first video a fully armed CRPF jawan is seen exercising admirable restraint while he is heckled and physically assaulted. By contrast a second video, also from the Kashmir bypoll, represents uniformed excesses rather than restraint, where a youth is tied to the bonnet of an army jeep as a shield against stone throwers.

Above all these videos underline how much the Srinagar bypoll was marred by widespread violence. On April 9 eight civilians were killed and over a hundred security personnel injured. Opposition NC chief Farooq Abdullah wrested the Lok Sabha seat from ruling PDP, but this was in the wake of a dismal 7% turnout on April 9 and an even worse 2% in areas where violence caused the EC to hold a repoll on April 13. With separatist sentiment high and none of the established parties doing much to bring it down, security forces have a tough job on their hand. This, however, is no excuse for excesses by men in uniform. It is hardly news that conditions in J&K call for far more sophisticated strategies of crowd control than are being deployed at present.

What is happening is Kashmir is not genocide, it is a counter terrorist operation. What you call separatists/freedom fighters are terrorists to us- trying to undermine our sovereignty, secularism, and our constitution. To us they are trying to carve out a state based on religious majority, take India's land and set up a religious state by violent means. That cannot be allowed.
Just two sides of the same coin.

Please don't try to run through rabbit holes. This is genocide that is happening in Kashmir.
