such things dont happen anymore.
Dude, you don't know because you don't see it. Whenever there is public service examination of lower positions of about thousands of job, you will see such scenes.

Have you ever traveled in a General Coach of Indian Railway ? I have traveled for 2 hours where one foot was on floor and other foot was on the first one. :D

Travelling on the roof of trains and hanging out of a moving train are becoming very rare in India if not nonexistent. And also such occurrences are pretty sporadic and mainly concentrated to a handful of Northern states only.In fact the part of the country I reside in I never in my life came across such scenes. But I agree that these things happen (My intention here is not to malign any particular state and I apologize to my fellow citizens if this comment of mine offend them in any manner) in UP and Bihar during certain festivals and Exams!Anyone is welcome to disagree!!
You are right. In Rajasthan examination, many people from distant towns, villages come not only from Rajasthan but also from UP too.

But it happens less. But I have traveled a lot sitting at door. with legs hanging out. Best way to travel in train as you can smoke as much you want. :smokin:

My hometown has electrified tracks, so I never saw people travelling on the roof but I have seen packed general compartment and travelled few times in that.

My Great Uncle until recently worked for IR in a senior postion. He tells me tha such cases of riding on top of trains is almost non-exsistant now. Heavy fining and increases in capacity of IR has taken care of 99.9% of such issues.

Having high speed train and what you call normal train i call it i think i can, i think i can, trains will bring the mix so i am not sure why are you questioning the investment.

The most business corridors will be covered by high speed trains. Like Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Chennai- Coimbatore-Bangalore, bangalore- Hyderabad etc

we are the most efficient railways on the planet after China's. :D

frankly, yours transports more passengers than ours for your trains plays a role of the subway at rush hour ,while ours don't.

No I wanted to say that we don't need to replace all the slow speed trains to high speed trains as in Japan. India need a mix of hi-lo speed trains. I am all for high speed trains for the business corridors, but it will not make any sense if they do it for the routes which is not use for business purposes.

We are already investing in ambitious dedicated freight corridors and semi high-speed rail, so we can plan for bullet trains also.

Yes. And we also need to vastly improve the existing infrastructure, before getting something new lets improve what we have in hand.

Actually DFC will greatly improve the capacity of existing infrastructure which will then only be available for passenger traffic.
