Yeah from what I can recall Manikchand is the only Indian product that I've seen in Pakistan. Actually that is produced in Pakistan as well, there was an article about it a few years ago about how the gutkha "king" had some of his machines smuggled into Pakistan and India was investigating it.

yup, I have a wonderful memory:

Manikchand was produced in Pakistan through a few corporations. Gutkha market has severely gone down in the last two years since Karachi (the main market for Gutkha) banned it. You can't get Gutkha at any khoka anymore.. you have to consult drug dealers.

Suzuki Swift in Pakistan is again from the merger with Suzuki. Its from either Pak-Suzuki or from Indus-Suzuki.

Most tyres in Pakistan are manufactured in Pakistan. Either from the General Tyre and Rubber Company or by Goodyear plants mostly in Punjab.

Are you sure??????????

I think Indian tyres dominates market in pakistan.

Indian Tyres Puncture Pak Market

Smuggled tyres mainly from India and Japan are now causing concern in Pakistan. The Pakistan Tyres Importers and Traders Association (PTITA) has raised the issue in the country.

But Indian tyre companies say they cannot effectively monitor smuggling of their tyres into Pakistan. Considering that they sell their tyres directly in small quantities through local distributors, but mostly via the indirect trade route (Dubai), they say they are helpless.

The crux of the problem is this: Imported tyres in Pakistan attract a customs duty of 55 per cent excluding other duties. This makes imported tyres cost up to 40 per cent more than locally manufactures tyres. Smuggled tyres cost only about 3-4 per cent more than locally made tyres. Concerns about tyre smuggling into Pakistan also surfaced when tyres were retained by Pakistan’s commerce ministry on the negative list of the Afghan Transit Trade Agreement (ATTA) last week, after shedding about fourteen other items.

Apollo International (Apollo Tyres’ export arm) chief PSS Prasad told FE, “sitting in India, beyond a point we are helpless. We sell our tyres to Dubai dealers and forget about them. We don’t care where they go from there. This may go against us in the long run, but we cannot do anything about it.”

Apollo Tyres claims a 25 per cent share of the Pakistan tyre market. Nearly 35 per cent of the company’s exports is to Pakistan, reaping about Rs 10 crore annually.

JK Tyre, the other Indian player which also exports to Pakistan, reaps about Rs 40 crore annually from these exports. :cheers:JK Industries vice-president (international sourcing and sales) HK Chopra told FE, “it is difficult to keep track of smuggled tyres. There is no way of telling where tyres go after we send them to Dubai.

However, we wish to do our business directly with Pakistan. There is such a wastage of freight because of lack of bilateral trade. All of this can be sorted out if there was direct trade.”

India’s Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (Atma) director general D Ravindran told FE, “the monitoring process is restricted up to the dealer phase in the export market. In this case, it is Dubai and Singapore. Ideally, yes monitoring should be possible right to the end to make sure no contraband tyres are brought into the Pakistan market, but trade is too complex to actually know where and how tyres go.”

hindustan is still getting used to the whole capitalism thing i think; still imposes too many barriers to trade

they have demand for our fruits and textiles but entering their market (especially Pakistan) is made so convoluted and complicated that its not even worth bothering

protectionism is not good for healthy competition; but i guess they'd sacrifice that, and fostering to different tastes in order to stifle domestic unrest. It is an over-populated country and putting one person or even industry out of business would cause major problems

by the way, dont indians love Pakistani pan masala

Manikchand indeed. Have people forgotten paan (betel leaf)? Raja Jani gutka and tobacco?

No that's not true. Ours is a traditional Muslim family and many people specially old and middle age enjoys Paan or Paan masala but we don't like any pak brands and use only Indian brands as they are the best paan masala in the world as far as quality and taste goes.

Such cosmetics are usually sold in low class bazars and are Illegal...and low class coz they r imitations.
Cloth!? not really... wont find much of tht (silk in general) coz its also illegally sold.

Low class bazaars ??? NOP Indian cosmetics are very expensive here in Pakistan and are sold in every major market. Usually you will find these Indian cosmetics in big stores.

As far as Indian cloth is concerned its NOT really in neither its of good quality. You will find rarely something of Indian origin with regards to cloth.

Jewelry is not indian:hitwall: its indian design ... Cell phones? wat r u smoking dude? no indian mobiles are sold here..

Yes you are right the Indian jewelry infact is not India made rather imitation though the shopkeepers sell you by saying its imported from India,

There are NO Indian cell phones here. But you can find some smuggled by individuals or to say brought from Dubai. Recently i have seen one Chinese Made cell phone which is meant for Indian market but someone brought it to Pakistan

Indian and Iranian cosmetics are high in demand in Muslim countries because they are guranteed free from pork fat, unislamically slaughter beef gelatin or beef fat. Indeed many Indian cosmetics dont even have animal fat contents but mineral oil derivaties.

A popular Pakistani export to India is basmati rice and A, A+ and AA+ grade rice.

One may scourge Karachi markets and find everything India made is available at the right places. Most in demand are vehicle spare parts because they are better in quality than Chinese. However Pakistan officaly restricts all kind of automobile parts and products from India.

Indian slow speed diesel engines aka Lister clones are the best and most fuel efficient in class and I hope to be able to buy them someday in Pakistan. Currently they are re-routed via UAE and the whole drama makes it very expensive to the tune of $5000 USD per engine. The beauty of these engines is that they will burn anything, even the dirtiest fuel, used cooking oil, waste varnish mixed with kerosene, liquified animal fat, etc etc ..

They have a potential of addressing Pakistani power shortage saga in a "green" way by recylcling tons of animal fat from the slaughter houses.

I haven't seen Shan in South India. But its quite popular here in US among Indians, especially the Tandoori masala :)

Both Shaan and Laziza make excellent Bombay Biryani Masala. I haven't seen them in India, but here in the UK, I prefer those to MDH Biryani Masala.
