Any one who gets the Constitutional posts becomes a Leader of India. They are not our rulers. The colonial mentality has to go.

And we dont identify authority figures by their religion. Its not in our popular culture. The politicians are, but when they get Constitutional posts, people automatically stop doing that.

The Presidents especially. They are to be respected by the nature of their Role.
And President Kalam is by far the best President we have had except maybe the First President of the Republic. And Yes, he is a Muslim.

Those who have come after him bring shame to the stature he held among the masses and especially the youth.

i think india deserves a leader like Dr. Kalam , thats because people of india have shown their patience cooperation and respect in the democratic setup for so many years , while pakistan always get rulers because they take knee jerk reaction type decisions , so they always get the zia's , musharaff's and feudal lords like nawaz shariff

I think Venkat Raman was a good President. He wasn't exactly visionary (at his age few are), but he was damn good I guess.
