on that you're wrong. Indians have routinely left MIT to Join IIT. People have not yet left Harvard/ Stanford but I know of at least one student who left Princeton to join IIM-A.
a) Oxford Said Business School Vs IIM (A, B or C, ISB) no competition, IIM is automatically chosen
b) Cornell and below Vs IIT (Kh, Ka, M, Chennai, Del) - generally choose IIT, for this group the likes of Kings college or Oxford/ Cambridge is irrelevant.
@Nilgiri might throw some additional information. From what I gather he failed his 12th boards/ JEE etc. and had to make do with a US education
