Indian Naval Ship Trikand is on a visit to Maputo, Mozambique as part of a deployment to countries on the East Coast of Africa and Island nations in the Western Indian Ocean. The visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral ties, strengthening the existing bonds of friendship and reinforcing cooperation in maritime security between India and Mozambique. During the stay in harbour, the ship was open to public for onboard visits.

In a demonstration of India’s commitment to its ties with Mozambique and of Indian Navy’s increasing footprint and operational reach, Indian Naval Ship Trikand arrived at Maputo as part of deployment of the Western Fleet to countries on the East Coast of Africa and Island nations in the Western Indian Ocean. The visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral ties, strengthening the existing bonds of friendship and reinforcing cooperation in maritime security between India and Mozambique. During the stay in harbour, various activities are planned which include official calls, cultural events and professional interaction between the two navies. During the stay, the ship would also be open to public for onboard visits.

In a demonstration of India’s commitment to its ties with South Africa and to maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region, Indian Naval Ships Kolkata, Trikand and Aditya under the Command of Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, Rear Admiral Ravneet Singh, NM are on a visit to Durban. The ships are part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet based at Mumbai under the Western Naval Command and are on a two month long deployment to the Western Indian Ocean. During the visit, the ships’ crew will have professional interactions with the South African Naval Forces (SAN) for enhancing co-operation and sharing nuances of naval operations including combating maritime threats of terrorism and piracy. Calls on senior Government and military authorities, training and technical cooperation measures with SAN, sporting and cultural interactions, aimed at strengthening ties and mutual understanding between the two forces, are also planned.

Indian Naval Ships Kolkata, Trikand and Aditya under the Command of Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet are on a visit to Durban. The Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Western Naval Command Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, AVSM, VSM, ADC,
and Her Excellency Ms Ruchi Ghanashyam High Commissioner of India to the Republic of South Africa visited the ships. A reception for local dignitaries and an interaction with the local media was also held. In addition calls on and by senior Government and military authorities, training and technical cooperation measures with South African Navy, sporting and cultural interactions, aimed at strengthening ties and mutual understanding between the two forces, are also planned.

#BridgesofFriendship In pursuit of India’s ‘Act East’ policy and outreach to friendly countries, the Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Sumitra is on a visit to Darwin, Australia. The ship is on her return passage to India after participating in the Royal New Zealand Navy International Naval Review 2016. The visit to Australia is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing maritime security cooperation between the two countries. During the stay in harbour, various activities are planned towards enhancing cooperation and mutual understanding between the two navies such as professional interactions with Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and discussions towards further enhancing inter-operability. In addition, calls on senior Government and military authorities, sporting and cultural interactions and sharing of best practices are also being undertaken. On departure, the ship would undertake a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with RAN ships.
