The Tejas supersonic, single-seat, single-engine multirole light fighter aircraft has been under development since 1983 by the Aeronautical Development Agency in cooperation with HAL in order to replace the IAF’s aging fleet of MiG-21 and MiG-23 aircraft with a domestically designed and produced light fighter jet.

I am aware of it. But that was the founding of ADA, India's only defence aerospace R&D wing. This was supposed to produce some sort of, 'LCA'. But the first priority was to build a team, infrastructure, etc. for this aerospace wing. There was a big gap between HAL Marut, and Tejas, so whatever gain from Marut had to be gained back again. Not easy with India's industry at the time, or available capital.

Design actually started around the late 80s, full funding in the early 90s.

There's been wind tunnel models of the AMCA since 09, would you consider the start of the program then? It's only a concept without any full funding, a paper plane. ADA has given the final model to the GoI for full funding, prototype months ago, still a paper plane until then.

Even what AMCA had in 09 is more than LCA had in the 80s.

NEW DELHI: The Navy has rejected the indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft, holding that the “overweight” fighter cannot optimally operate from aircraft carriers, and is now looking to induct an alternative fighter from abroad in the next five to six years.

The single-engine Tejas, which is “too heavy”, does not meet the “thrust-to-weight requirement to take off with a full fuel and arms load” from an aircraft carrier’s deck.

HAL has become a shame for the country as the institute has never delivered a single platform in time and have wasted millions of dollars. IAF says it is time to look beyond HAL and ultimately HAL should be closed.

BY 33 years I mean 33 years. I have proof of it. Indians have been working on LAC for 33 years and they come up with 2 display aircrafts that were made in France just to give boost to INDIANS.

The government says what I said, ADA was founded then. I gave the nitty, gritty which went completely over your head.

There were several, several designs ment after Marut ---

But all reject. Shouldnt have happened that way.

ADA, the only R&D aerospace wing was created with a big gap from Marut, which had to be rebuilt. Infrastructure, human resource, capital was all limited, or had to build up. That was the priority. Not easy for India at that time. Full funding happened in the 90s for the LCA.

What AMCA had in 09, was a lot more than what LCA had much of the 80s. AMCA is still a paper plane, until gov gives the full funding.

I agree with you , some lessons you learn the hard way ...... We still have Sarkari attitude in govt orgs ...while privates are giving far better results ..time are changing so the attitude ...just for ex.
Bharat Forget made one artillery gun after it Tata made one now even OFB has its own gun .......... Times are not as they were in 1983 and now govt is more interested in creating the local eco system of defence industry then making millions in foreign defence deals
