but it's also a truth that muslims don't give much importance to education..after primary/basic education most youngsters will turn in to some kind of business, girls are married as soon as they rech 18, family planning wise also muslims lag behind..but would you believe in christians priests offer money to have third child ? one of my married friend told me.

Firstly the chart I posted, 5 out of 13 states Muslims had higher literacy rate than Hindus. Assam and West Bengal there are allegations of illegal migration from the bordering country, which could have pulled down Muslims literacy figures in these sates down by a bit.

Why the stats for Indian Muslims is so negatively skewed in Sachar report? Because Muslims of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,Jharkhand, West Bengal and Assam form close to half of the Indian Muslim population. Now these states are the most under developed states of India. Hindus are doing just as bad in these states. End of the day its all about money. If people have money they get their kids good education, irrespective of religion. There is no discrimination there.

If we take these figures at face value, they actually work against the excuse given for the low participation of Muslims in the job market. If Muslims have higher or comparable literacy rates, how come they still lag far, far behind in government and private sector jobs?

Basu, who is a Hindu, also said discrimination has been "institutionalized," with many Muslims being denied employment in government and private-sector offices where 90 to 95 per cent jobs are held by Hindus.

Gautam Ray, a senior journalist with Calcutta's largest Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, said that since the bulk of the dalits (low-caste Hindus or so-called Untouchables) converted to Islam when the religion spread in India, many upper-caste Hindus look down on Muslims as they had for generations looked down on dalits.

"The root of this communal discrimination is deeply entrenched in the society and most of these communal Hindus are not expected to change their feeling for Muslims any time soon," said Ray, who is also an upper-caste Hindu. "Muslims are often denied housing in Hindu-dominated modern residential complexes," he added.

"This communal discrimination against Muslims will not end unless Hindus themselves change their attitude. But we do not see hope of any such positive social change anytime soon."

sorry..data like sachar report speaks otherwise..my direct observation also speaks the same..that after basic education they turn into other business etc.there can be exceptions every where but in general what i said is fairly right.
christians are fairly place in education level (thanks to priests )so is in family planning..but priests speaks against family planning(because they won't get priests and nuns from micro families)..according to them using condom is not allowed..but thanks to the education level nobody listens to them.

Being called a Dravidian is not an insult to me at all. I've seen this particular user use this word many times in hopes of getting a likewise response. Little do they know that we don't feel insulted when they call us Dravidians. Although they certainly intend it to. And also like you said...
