Indian Movie Dhoom-3 breaks Waar's Box Office Opening Record in Pakistan.

Pakistanis love Indian film :smitten:....1 KM queues...cannot believe.

. .
Just to put things in perspective to show that this perspective is pointless to demonstrate anything.

Size of India.
3,287,590 sq km

Size of Pakistan
796,095 sq km (24.21% of India)

Population of India
1.237 Billion

Population of Pakistan
179.2 million (14.4% of India)

Number of major population centres(pop > 500000)..

India: 62

Pakistan: 9

And somehow its okay to compare movie market size of the two...Seriously??!!
Seriously you never compare pakistan with india? Good For you..!!!

.
In all seriousness.. Pakistanis have already lost the cultural war to two fronts. One to India, the other to Arabia.

You mean a country carved out of India on the basis of a religion originated in Arabia was supposed to win a culture war against those two? Serious?

Considering that the religion has been in India for over a 1000 years it had taken on its own identity localized to it. So yes, it would have easily won a culture war had there been some efforts to actually nurture it instead of trying to relate to Arab Imperialism at one end while trying to make links to the Melhulla or Melhua.. IVC folks on the other side.

. .
I am being serious. Your post was really close to a speech given by a Kerala communist in the 1970's.

That being said, I accept this colonization of the mind.

@Oscar we can discuss the western enslavement of the Indian mind,
But in the larger scheme of things, hell even in my personal scheme of things it doesn't matter.

The truth is, I am a willing participant in this colonization process.

I am an Indian living in new Zealand. My identities no longer serve as an anchor.

I have opted for westernization as an anchor in an alien country.

Just to put things in perspective, what is rather misleadingly called ''western culture'' today is modern popular culture that largely developed in the west riding on technology. Its about as traditionally ''western'' as K-POP is Korean. (OK the K-POP analogy is a bit much but I hope you get the point).

Impossible practically because mortal enemy India's presence meant Pakistan could only be ''not India'', a conundrum not faced by our Persian friends, as there is no Parsi enemy state...

What's the meaning on that :-)

Not really. It had no reason to be "not India" because it was already "Not India". There was greater muslim population in Pakistan and hence greater cultural influence of an amalgamation of UP culture with local customs. However, largely due to the need to cover up the hegemony of two provinces over the rest of the country the Arab Imperialist narrative was brought in to try and keep national fabric intact... sadly.. as it was not owned(and ipso facto not understood).. it literally blew up in our faces.

Disagree. Pakistan was already ''not India'' is a tall claim indeed. The need to disown own culture and hate own past may have been a cultural political need of the Muslim population under British India, to that extent yes, the Muslims were looking at themselves as ''Not India''. So maybe the ''not india'' symdrome predates partition. But a partitioned Pakistan would not, could not escape this foregone conclusion. It was next to impossible. Face it, you just don't have that narrative of a cultural pakistan that is also ''not India'' in your armory.

Incorrect disagreement. Not India does not mean the need to hate Ashoka or Maurya.. it means to place emphasis on history after Qasim. It is less a case of "not India" and more a case of "this India" and "that India". Hence, there is nothing to face.. there is enough history available(1000 years worth) to forge a cultural identity.. If such "hatred" existed as surmised by you.. there would be little love for the IVC, Buddhist history or otherwise in Pakistan. Ground realities are quite different from what is shown on Indian Media. By your approach.. Nehari should have been thrown away and replaced by Shawarma.. clearly that is not the case.

You are getting lost in details. The NEED to selectively emphasise on something else is the issue. You mention IVC and Buddhist part, only because it doesn't remind you of Hindu. For a so called thousand years, you are still naming your weapons after foreigners and your local spiritual leaders are steadily falling out of favor.

There never was a chance, the idea is too artificial. Look at BD, they gave up the artificial idea and embraced their identity, despite what the trolls in BD section say, BD people are not desperate to be ''not india'', they embrace their bengali - indian culture. An artificial entity like Pakistan can not. Atleast not yet, unless something fundamentally changes. What is that?

In my opinion when people get disilusioned with religion. But then, why Pakistan?

I disagree with that. Look at it this way. A Keralite will focus on what he brings to the table.. his culture.. his language.. his songs..and so on. Sure he appreciates what the rest of India has to offer but that is what he brings to the table.

Similarly.. India too is an amalgamation of many cultures with a central theme but all quite different..if Bengalis embrace their culture then by the virtue of Bengalis being in India or Bengalis being Hindu they do not embrace either.

Now, a 1000 years is when the outsiders made contact.. some preached .. some invaded.. and so on. That contact left its mark.. it created a people with an identity that took the inheritance of both. These people can then be classified as Hindu-Muslims... not Hinduism the religion.. but a mixture of the culture of the land and the religion Islam. Yet, they are not a subgroup of Hinduism the religion...but a different identity with different practices in many aspects..and similar practices in many aspects. Unless you are able to see and acknowledge that.. there will always be a two-nation theory sentiment present. The problem with Pakistani leadership in the past and today is that they refused to even acknowledge the Hindu ingredient in this mixture and tried to make banana shake using watermelons and then kept calling it a banana shake..nobody is going to buy it except a few idiots who dont know what bananas or watermelons taste like.

May my body be fertilizing some plot of land somewhere long before such a thing happens !
