NAROWAL: An Indian mortar shell exploded in a Narowal village Tuesday, killing three children and injuring many others, Samaa reported.
Narowal's Pind Toghal Pur was devastated after the deadly accident.
Reportedly, the village minors found the unexploded shell in an open field, brought it home, and began playing with it, the police said.
According to sources, one of the children accidentally threw the shell on its fuse, causing it to detonate.
The shell, which failed to explode upon landing, was fired by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) a couple a days earlier.
Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has sought an immediate report from the government of Punjab over the Narowal tragedy.
Dozens of Pakistanis have been killed at the hands of Indian border forces, which have repeatedly been violating the ceasefire agreement on the international border with Pakistan --commonly known as Line of Control (LoC).
Earlier, Pakistan's army said it had voiced concern to India at continued firing across the disputed frontier in Kashmir and in Punjab province when senior officials from both sides spoke via a special hotline.
"Pakistan army's director of military operations conveyed concern to (his) Indian counterpart and pointed towards India's consistent unprovoked firing on civil population living along the Line of Control and the working boundary," a senior military official said.--SAMAA
