Indian Military Cannot Operate Effectively Without Russian Supplied Equipment: CRS Report

Looks like the ground work is being setup to give India a get out of jail card on the S400 by the Americans.

There is still a question how the Americans handled the Turkish case.

Is it now the end of CAATSA as it will transition from being a "law" to being a tool to beat up other countries with ..

So even if US imposes sanctions on India for puchasing S400 and bars sale GE engines, can't we get similar ones from Rolls Royce or Safran?

The Indian military inventory is 70-80% Russian origin and after even the complete failure of their INSAS rifle they are co-producing the AK-103. However, India also holds the world title in crashing Russian jets, especially the MIG-21.

Not that easy, I'm afraid. Theoretically it is possible but there'd have to be significant structural and internal modifications to the airframe, rather than just a simple replacement job. Might end up adding a few years to your Tejas project.

However it's still just a possibility, you might just get a pass from sanctions.

I don't see sanctions coming to India however Yanks will do everything to ensure that they are the new suppliers and your reliance on Russia ends soon. Expect more lobbying from US and indirect diplomatic pressure for the same.

Russian jets needs a lot of maintenance than their western counterparts. IAF struggle with keeping maintenance upto date which negatively effects their operations.
Russian jets are as good as any western jet and I come aspects actually superior but only in the hands of a experienced pilot and a skilled crew trained on Russian jets with decades of experience. Someone who knows A to Z . That's why performance of Russian jets in the hands of Russian pilots is very different than Russian jets flown by other air forces. I.e recent operations in Syria ,Iraq.

India with its massive population should be able to make its own fighter jets, tanks etc but it can not which means in war, it can not replace its own losses. another reason why China is light years ahead of India who can not even make a bicycle.

S-400 has active sensors which can learn the electronic signatures of the US equipment stationed within its range. Hence, the advanced US systems shouldn’t be placed in its vicinity….

I am suprised that the USA has not put a CAATSA framework in place for people who buy weapons systems from China - if so - Pakistan would be royally screwed .. maybe that is next !

Whats the matter? Indian military cannot operate effectively with Russian supplied equipments either.

Very dangerous. Means the event of a major war, India will have to depend on the good grace of Russia. If Russia is on bad terms with them or wants to romain.neutral by not getting involved, then Indias military might fond it difficult to even operate.

I doubt it is 70-80%. Israelis, French and Americans have made a lot of inroads

What is your nationality? you seem quite clueless about military affairs or even India, if you are Indian. Even the Indian government figures give a 70% Russian dependency figure. However, it is good that you ask questions are are learning. India has indeed bought some very expensive US gear like C-17, Apaches etc. The Zionist sales are mostly missiles and dud SPICE bombs.

US arms sales to India zoomed to $3.4 billion in Trump govt's final year

Between 1950 and 2020, US sale of arms to India under FMS category was $12.8 billion

More than 70% of Indian military based on Russian equipment
The military technical cooperation between India and Russia is one of the most important pillars of the special and privileged strategic partnership between our two countries. More than 60% to 70% of our armed forces in India are equipped with weapons of Russian origin, the envoy said, adding, Russia is also a very important partner for manufacture of defence items in India as part of Make in India programme.
