The Indian Government plans on setting up a specialized military division for special operations along with an agency to monitor cyber warfare along with space threats.
This announcement was made by the present Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra at the Unified Commanders’ Conference on 13th July 2017. The conference was home to top military commanders of all three of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

“The Defence Cyber & Space Agencies and Special Operations Division will soon become a reality,” a statement of the Ministry of Defence said.
Credible sources have said that the word “agencies” has been used to keep the structures lean and not labour intensive. These will be headed by Major General or equivalently ranked officers.

The concerned agency will look at cyber network security issues as the forces are increasingly relying on dedicated networks to operate in battlefields. The security of satellites and their uses are very important not only to the civilians but to the military as well. China has already tested an anti-satellite weapon which has the potential to destroy satellites of other nations.

The conference was also attended by Union Defence Minister Shri Arun Jaitley, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, the three Service Chiefs and several other senior officials.
The conference was discussed using “big data” towards insightful decision making and the presentation was made by the College of Defence Management.

The joint curriculum in the much famed Defence Services Staff College, one of the oldest tri-services institutions in the world, has been increased considerably to enhance the shared perspective in executing joint operations. With the purpose of making the military physical training even more scientific, a decision to incorporate sports medicine in the methodology of training cadets, recruits and combat soldiers was also taken.

In his closing remarks, Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba stressed the need for synergistic execution of operational plans and encouraged all officers and soldiers to ensure rigorous cost benefit analysis while creating any new structures.
