Shrugging off the controversy around the previous deal, the Narendra Modi government has finalized a deal for another 36 Rafale fighter jets, according to media reports.

An Indian Defence Research Wing report published on Saturday said the new order will be inked in early 2020.

The Indian Air Force has recently been handed over its first Rafale aircraft from France. The official handing over will take place on October 8 when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be visiting France.

The purchase of another 36 Rafale fighter jets will take the fleet to 72, which will be key to bolster India’s air power, particularly in the aftermath of the Balakot strike, when the IAF went deep inside Pakistan to destroy terror training camps. Ever since, both India and Pakistan have been keen to bolster their air power.

Considering India’s huge defence market, official sources here say the US is impressing upon India to buy its Lockheed Martin jets. However, ever since Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman downed an F-16 flown by Pakistan, this aircraft’s reputation has gone down by many notches.

Even the F-21 isn’t something India is keen to procure, irrespective of the pressure from US. But the Boeing F-18, which has both a carrier as well as an Air force variant, is under consideration of the IAF along with Rafale, say sources.

SAAB’s Gripen-E is out of the race, while the Russian Mig-35 and Sukhoi-Su-35 are not expected to give a tough fight to Rafale.

The IAF has decided to procure 18 Su-30 MKI and 21 Mig-29 fighter jets from Russia. Upgradation of 272 aircraft of Su- 30 MKI fleet is also under serious consideration. The recent Russia visit of PM Modi has accelerated this process.

Dassault Aviation, the creator of Rafale, and the US’ Boeing, have both extended their offers to help build India’s 5th generation AMCA fighter jet, provided they win the lucrative contract to supply fighter aircraft to the Indian Air force.

Everybody wants to milk India. Goras will milk India until it go dry. Than they will wait for poverty and sickness to reduce some people population.

Dishonesty of Indian Media. They say "aftermath of Balakot" strike. They are very eager to mention that India went deep inside Pakistani territory to strike "terrorists camps".
Which we all know are both lies.
1- The Indians only intruded 3/4 miles in Pakistani airspace and used Standoff Spice to strike. Before running back to India saving their tails. Indians themselves have admitted that they only intruded few miles in to Pakistani controlled territory.
2- There were no strikes on "terrorists camp". There were no terrorists camp in Balakot. The Indians destroyed some trees and killed a crow. The world media had confirmed it. But Indian lies goes on.

What the Indian media don't tell their readers dishonestly that what happened next day on 27th Feb, when Pakistan whip their arses in broad day light. By entering Indian Airspace, used their smart bombs, first locking the 6 targets in 4 different locations and then dropping their bombs in nearby open places. PAF has shown video proofs of it recently.
No Indian denial is forthcoming after PAF's video revelations.

Modi and other Indians commented after successful and daring air strikes by PAF on 27th Feb that "if India had Rafale the story would have been different".

Indian media doesn't want to admit it. And also that their Army Chief Bipin could easily had been PAF target, if they didn't show mercy and spare his and other Indian Generals lives.

They did killed terrorists.....Five eye has the information. Ask your MI-6 t...if you know any among them.

@Water Car Engineer i guess Rafale would be MRCA 2 coupled with Tejas.
MMRCA is dead. That tender has been issued and cancelled multiple times and any future news on it is only mouthpieces of the respective competitors and their propaganda while IAF's top brass would prolong that process for kickbacks. Tejas procurement will continue along with development of Mk-1A and MCA while there wouldn't be any procurement of 126 or 200 foreign jets be it Rafales/Gripens/F-16s.

Maybe 36 more Rafales and that's about it. If IN decides to go with Rafale-M for IAC-3, there is a possibility that we might negotiate for localized production and ToT

Warning! Indian brainfart level approaching 100%. You are advised to take Indians with a pinch of salt, thank you.

Not sure what MMRCA2 will be. Dassault hasn't pitched a local partner for the program even. But yes, MMRCA2 AC, Tejas marks will fill in the gaps of falling sqd requirement. Two production plants under HAL, one under private sector.

It's not dead. Matter a fact, local partnerships are already forming. TATAs to produce F21, Adanis to produce Gripen E, HAL/Mahindra to produce Super Hornet, those are the partnerships publicized as of now.

My wild guess is IAF won't stop at 36 Rafale.Mig 29 is also becoming old and in ten years there would be talks about replacing it.

Since IAF downed an F-16 with a Mig-21, I am guessing that IAF and overall India will have no problems with Pakistan procuring another 100 or so F-16's (Block 72+), right?
