Srinagar, June 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian paramilitary forces killed a protester and injured over a dozen others in Jammu city, today.Indian paramilitary forces resorted brute force and fired on the members of Sikh community, today, after they blocked roads by burning tyres and erecting hurdles in Jammu against the removal of posters by the authorities of a Sikh religious revolutionary leader, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. One protester identified as Jagjit Singh was killed on spot. Bhindranwale was killed during a raid by the Indian Army on the Golden Temple on 3rd June in 1984. Indian paramilitary forces open fire on a mob of Sikh protesters at Gadigarh in Jammu city, a local police officer said. Clashes between protesters and Indian police men was continued till last reports came in.

Sikh Protesters Clash With Police in Jammu, One Killed.

JAMMU: One person has been killed and 40 received injuries in violent clashes between Sikh protesters and the police in Jammu on Thursday. The protesters are angry over the removal of posters of Sikh separatist leader Jarnail Bhindrawale put up in Gardhigarh ahead of his death anniversary on Saturday. Locals allege the poster was removed by the police, triggering a spate of protests and clashes.

"We are not at fault. A poster was put up here, why did they remove it? What was in that? For the last 31 years we are paying tributes, a young man got killed here, why did he die? Where from did the police come suddenly?" said Kanwaljeet Kaur, a resident of Gardhigarh in Jammu.

On Wednesday, a sub-inspector was stabbed when a mob attacked a police party with sticks and knives. Curfew has now been imposed in Gardhigarh.


"We have taken preventive measures, curfew does not mean that everything is gone out of hand, it is measure for saving the situation from deteriorating further", said Jammu Deputy Commissioner Simranjeet Singh.

But the protests are spreading to other areas of Jammu now like Nanak Nagar. The crucial airport road was blocked when protesters raised slogans against the Jammu and Kashmir government. They burnt tyres denouncing the removal of the poster.

Protesters also closed the Jammu-Pathakot National Highway. Protesters allege police have picked up many local boys, and are demanding their immediate release. They are also demanding an apology from senior police officers for hurting their sentiments.

Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory, UNSC has passed dozens of resolutions in it. Pakistan is a direct party in this dispute. Whereas Baluchistan is integral part of Pakistan hence problems related to it are entirely internal.
